Safety and Security at Eurokids, Vastrapur and Paldi How will a preschool make its premise a safe and risk free place for a toddler? It starts with the infrastructure. Both the outdoor and indoor places should be safe for the child. The furniture‐ fixed and movable has rounded edges. No sharp and protruding corners is the norm. All electric points are above the reach of the children. The latch on the class room and washroom doors is at a height where a child cannot reach it. Work tables and chairs are comfortable and of appropriate height. The material is also of good quality. The toys and equipments are also of good quality, made using child safe material and paints. The entire campus is under 24 hours of CCTV surveillance. All these cameras can record the activities of all the nooks and corners of the school. We are the only preschool with air purifiers in all classrooms to ensure safe and clean air for the children. We are also the only preschool that has fire alarm and smoke detectors installed for additional safety. The entire campus has clearly marked areas and even the Restricted Entry areas have been earmarked prominently. The staff members come next. All the teaching staff members have to submit a copy of relevant documents at the time of appointment. Each and every support staff has to submit a Fit to Work certificate issued by a medical practitioner. This is apart from the mandatory police verification. This also applies to the van contractors. They have to additionally submit the relevant documents of the vehicle and make the same available at any time when asked. No male staff member is allowed entry indoor when the school is in progress. Female support staff accompanies the children in the vans. All teaching and non teaching staff members undergo training for emergency preparedness and fire fighting and First aid skills. We conduct surprise drills round the year to train both the staff and the children to prepare them for any eventuality. Additionally our children as young as 2 years, get used to surprise situations gradually learn not to panic. Also, if someone comes to pick up a child from school they have to bring the ID cards that we issue to the parents. These cards have their photographs and the person is supposed to carry this along. We also cross check it with parents and then only release the students from campus. In today’s times it is also important to make the young children aware of abuse and how not to fall prey to it. Also it is equally important to make them understand that it is important for them to report an incident that makes them uncomfortable to an adult‐ either the teacher or their parent. To have these systems in place is one thing but to maintain them year on year is another. To ensure the same and to motivate each center to improve and upgrade itself, Eurokids conducts Safety Audits annually. The French company, Bureau Veritas, does it for them where it assesses each centre on an array of parameters and grants them certificates. We are proud to be certified 99.4% for Vastrapur campus and 97% for Paldi campus. Source : http://www.educareinitiatives.com/safety‐and‐security‐at‐eurokids‐vastrapur‐and‐paldi/
