Exemplary Teamwork

It gives me great pride to share that, over the last three weeks, once again, we worked together in an exemplary fashion!
Teachers, pupils and staff joined forces to turn the idea of a Tunnel of Terror into a reality. Baccalaureate, IA-Levels and AHS pupils shared ideas and participated in different activities to place them on a par with great actors of horror movies.
The Art extracurricular activity students contributed by making decorations, Ms Belén, Mr Sergio, Mr Eladio, Miss Maria, Ms Mónica and Mr Jordi directed the show impeccably by involving teachers, the art team and staff so that not only the Secondary School students, but also families, can enjoy the tunnel between 17h and 18h on the 28th!
Don't miss it, we will be waiting for you from 17h in the tunnel! And, don’t forget your costume! We’ll have a spooktacular time!

Science Week 22/23

CARING FOR MOUNTAINS "When the mountain reaches your heart, everything comes from it and leads you to it"

Mountains have always been a source of wonder and beauty, and we sometimes lack the words to express our admiration for them. To mark that 2022 is the International Year of Mountains, we have chosen to dedicate Science Week to these marvelous ecosystems, which are essential to sustain the equilibrium of our planet.
An estimated 22% of the earth's surface is covered by mountains which are both directly or indirectly responsible for the well-being and livelihood of the people of this planet.
Glaciers are melting and mountains are being threatened by the changing climate and this makes them increasingly vulnerable to disasters. Furthermore, factors such as extreme weather events, deforestation, forest fires, land degradation and natural disasters adversely affect mountain ecosystems.
Do you know that mountains are the main source of freshwater, supplying between 60 and 80% of the world's freshwater? Do you know that they contribute to food supply and nutritional stability by providing land for crops or pasture for livestock? And, that they perform a key role in the supply of clean and renewable energy and are excellent places to enjoy hiking and sustainable tourism?
For all these reasons and many more, we hope our pupils will appreciate the need to care for and to protect these marvellous habitats through participating in different activities.

International Homeroom

The International Homeroom service accommodates newlyarrived students into the rich language programmes offered by EISB. It is a transitional, tailor-made and stage-based programme that serves, initially, as a nested environment to provide pupils the support they require to reach language competence in English, Catalan or Spanish according to our curriculum and we ensure an attention to diversity to guarantee respect towards the heterogeneity of our students.
Our immersion programme covers the entire spectrum of Primary and compulsory Secondary education (Y1 to Y4) and offers differentiated instruction in English, Spanish and Catalan to meet the long term standards of regular classroom instruction. Our goal is for pupils to reach full classroom immersion by progressively overcoming the benchmarks set at each stage of the transitional process.
In the International Homeroom, students develop both the BICS (Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills) and the CALP (Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency) at their pace. To do this, we adapt periods of instruction to individual schedules so that language standards, set by our curriculum, are met. The Service operates on a pull-out basis where, consequently, students are temporarily exempted from certain subjects in order to receive the attention they require.
From an organisational perspective, the International Homeroom is currently divided into three main sections corresponding to EISB’s official languages. The English and Catalan units offer a comprehensive service for the Primary and Secondary Schools, while the Spanish team segments instruction into a threefold division: Years 1-3 (literacy group), Years 4-6 and Secondary Y1-Y4. Each area is organised and coordinated by a specialist teacher and support teachers assist with differentiation. The International Homeroom team is currently made up of 5 experienced teachers as well as 3 part-time, assisting teachers.
As a service provided by our school, the International Homeroom works alongside the Admissions Department to guarantee that students are placed correctly and that their needs are fulfilled at all times. Together with the Primary and Secondary School Coordination teams, as well as the School’s Psychology Department, the International Homeroom draws up individual attention plans that cater for students’ immediate needs. Over and above that, it provides solutions and incentives for those students who would otherwise be challenged if required to participate in curricular target-language based lessons, guaranteeing, thus, a fair progress-based assessment process. Ultimately, the International Homeroom works closely with class teachers and language specialists to ensure successful classroom immersion as well as student integration within our school community.

Finally, from a social angle, the service fosters and gives visibility to our school’s rich multicultural and multilingual mindset and background. Our students are instilled with tolerance and an open-minded approach to learning and diversity which is the result of instructional time shared with local students in regular lessons as well as their classmates from over 50 different countries within the International Homeroom.

Intercambio Loches / Lille - EISB

El pasado mes de septiembre, algunos de nuestros alumnos de Secondary Year 4 y de Baccalaureate Year 1 participaron en un stage de un mes en Francia.
Este mes de octubre hemos recibido en EISB a sus correspondientes compañeras de intercambio del colegio Saint Denis de Loches y del Lycée Ozanam de Lille. Durante su estancia, las alumnas han asistido a clase con sus “binômes” españolas a la vez que han disfrutado de muchas otras actividades dentro (clases de castellano y talleres de cocina española con Mr Sergi Natale, entre otras) y fuera de la escuela y con sus familias de acogida. Dicen haber disfrutado mucho y por ello han querido compartir con nosotros algunas frases acerca de su bonita experiencia.
Eglantine: “...He aprendido mucho de este viaje. Me gustó la diferencia con Francia en la gastronomía, los paisajes, el modo de vida… He descubierto una cultura diferente. ¡Me ha gustado mucho y volveré!”
Estella: “...A mi me ha gustado mucho. Es muy diferente de París y hace mucho más calor”
Jeanne: “... He visitado Barcelona, su casco antiguo, la Sagrada Familia. Es una ciudad muy bonita. Este intercambio me ha permitido descubrir una nueva cultura… y mejorar mi nivel de español.”
Julie: “...Durante este mes en España he probado los platos típicos… la paella, la tortilla de patatas, los churros con chocolate y el "pa amb tomàquet" que está buenísimo!! … nadar en la piscina en noviembre no es posible en Francia… ¡¡¡Viva España!!!
Louise. “Me gusta mucho España por su clima…y he aprendido a cocinar una tortilla de patata.”
Rose: “Me gusta esta escuela porque hay muchas clases en otras lenguas y pudimos aprender a cocinar platos típicos”.
Louisa: “ Vivo en Lille y tengo 15 años. La familia de mi intercambio es muy maja. He visitado Barcelona y Zaragoza. En Zaragoza he estado en un festival, pude hablar con españoles y comer platos típicos como la paella.”
Elynah: “ la escuela en España es mejor porque en Francia empezamos a las ocho y media y terminamos a las seis y media…. La vida para los jóvenes es mejor porque es menos peligroso que en Francia.”
En definitiva, la evaluación de la experiencia tanto en el colegio como con las familias ha sido tan positiva, que nos anima a seguir ofreciendo a nuestros alumnos futuros intercambios.
Estamos deseando leer en los próximos boletines las experiencias que nos compartirán nuestros alumnos tras sus estancias en Hamburgo y en Bad-Harzburg, y cuyas correspondientes parejas de intercambio aún están por visitarnos en Barcelona.

ERASMUS + Ankara & Estambul

Durante este mes de octubre 11 alumnos de Baccalaureate han tenido la oportunidad de visitar Turquía dentro del Programa Erasmus + .
Seis alumnos de Baccalaureate Year 2 visitaron Ankara donde pudieron hacer visitas culturales y trabajar en un proyecto basado en la revalorización del patrimonio cultural y la actividad física. Este proyecto lo integran 4 países: Turquía, Portugal, Finlandia y España.
Por otro lado, 5 alumnos de Baccalaureate Year 1 visitaron Estambul dónde, además de poder visitar la ciudad y sus contrastes culturales, trabajaron en el desarrollo de un proyecto basado en la fomentación de hábitos saludables entre los jóvenes europeos y el efecto que tienen en la mejora de su felicidad. Este proyecto lo integran 5 países: Holanda, Alemania, Turquía, Francia y España.

Awake Outdoor Camp

Los alumnos de Secondary Y1, Y2, Y3 y Y4 lo han pasado en grande durante los días del Outdoor Camp en Cabrera de Mar, Planoles, Vall de Núria y Pedraforca. Una ocasión muy especial para conectar con sus compañeros en un entorno diferente y singular.
Ciertamente...les ha sorprendido realizar actividades poco comunes en su día a día como la práctica del yoga, del mindfulness, la construcción de un vehículo, de un puente o de una casita para pájaros y, en el caso de Y4, también la práctica de primeros auxilios. El entorno fue el ideal para trabajar actividades sobre sostenibilidad y consciencia ambiental. Los momentos de charla y de reflexión les ofrecieron la oportunidad de comprender, sobre el terreno, que debemos respetar el planeta para asegurarnos un futuro mejor.

It was a fantastic event and the staff who attended loved having the opportunity to talk with you and share your ideas about our school. Muchas de las frutas ya tienen un embalaje fantástico muy fácil de abrir con las manos.La repostería casera también es una gran opción para evitar plásticos innecesarios a la vez que evitasingredientes insanos.Los bizcochos, magdalenas o galletas caseras por ejemplo son muy fáciles de hacer y a los niños lesencanta ayudar en esas tareas.
No te agobies con lo que no se puede evitar
Seguramente algo de basura tendrá que generar el desayuno: o alimentos que solo puedas conseguir envasados, o los restos orgánicos de los alimentos. No te agobies, y sobre todo, no se debe agobiar tu hijo. Debes enseñarle que se trata de hacer lo posible, lo que esté en nuestras manos, y que cada pequeño gesto cuenta.
Debemos sentirnos orgullosos por lo que hacemos, no culpables por lo que no hacemos."

EISB Let's Celebrate
Equipos de competición EISB

El pasado viernes 14 de octubre se celebró la presentación de todas las secciones deportivas de los EISB DRAGONS para esta temporada 2022-2023. ¡Gracias familias por vuestra asistencia! Hubo un gran ambiente en el pabellón y se pudo comprobar que en EISB tenemos a los mejores hinchas de nuestros equipos!
Además, durante todo el evento pudimos disfrutar con nuestra mascota George que amenizó todo el acto y nos hizo reir, como de costumbre.
Desfilaron por el polideportivo los más de 500 deportistas de nuestros equipos de fútbol, baloncesto, BTT, judo, gimnasia rítmica, natación de competición y natación sincronizada.
También participaron los alumnos que tendrán el honor de representarnos a todos en los diferentes torneos de la ISSA (International Schools Sports Association), en las categorías de fútbol, baloncesto, tenis, bádminton y golf.
El acto acabó con un partido de exhibición de baloncesto que jugaron una representación de jugadores y jugadoras de la ISSA.
Gracias a todos por colaborar con la compra de tiquets para la rifa y de la camiseta EISB Dragons solidaria. Nuestros alumnos de Secondary, que forman parte del comité de voluntariado del colegio, recaudaron más de 600 euros que se repartirán entre las causas solidarias en las que colabora el colegio.
Deseamos que disfrutarais del acto y os esperamos a todos en cada evento deportivo para seguir animando a nuestros deportistas. LET 'S GO DRAGONS!!!

EISB Let's Celebrate
24a CROS SANT CUGAT

El pròxim diumenge, 13 de novembre, es durà a terme al Parc de la Pollancreda, la 24a edició de la “Cros Ciutat de Sant Cugat”. És una prova en la qual tots els nostres alumnes correran junts diferents distàncies, depenent de la seva edat. Tot i el seu format competitiu, és una prova familiar que es consolida com una autèntica festa de l’esport. Us animem a participar-hi i a contribuir-hi activament!
Durant tot el matí del diumenge es duran a terme un total de 18 curses que engloben totes les edats (separades per les diferents categories d’edats). Edat mínima de participació: nascuts l'any 2016.
Com ens hi apuntem?
El col·legi s’encarrega de registrar tots els alumnes. Anima’t a participar, tots els alumnes nascuts entre el 2005 i el 2016 esteu convocats!

The RECIPE, please!
Tallarines amb mandonguilles!

Volem compartir amb il·lusió que, aquest mes d'octubre, hem incorporat un tipus de blat antic que els camperols de la zona han volgut recuperar. Ho vam servir el dilluns passat, 24 d'octubre: "Tallarines Florence Aurora amb mandonguilletes de pollastre en salsa" i, en vista de la satisfacció dels alumnes, la quantitat de nutrients i la fàcil digestibilitat del producte, ben aviat repetirem. Així preparem el plat per a 4 persones:
En un bol, barregem la carn triturada (de cuixa o contra cuixa que és més melosa) amb l'all picat, la sal i el pebre. Amassem, formem boletes de 10 gr i ho passem per la maizena. En una cassola, hi posem 3 cullerades d'OOV i hi fregim les mandonguilletes mentre piquem la ceba i la hi afegim. Ho deixem que es dauri, llavors hi afegim la pastanaga i l'api picats fins que estiguin tendres. Afegim el tomàquet triturat i ho deixem coure 20 minuts a foc suau, amb una mica de sal i pebre i la fulla de llorer. Afegim 300 gr de tallarines Florence Aurora i hi incorporem 700 ml d'aigua. Ho duem a ebullició, i removem de tant en tant. Després de 9 minuts, ho servim, ho arreglem de sal i ho empolvorem amb parmesà ben fi.
120 gr de contra cuixa de pollastre picat 1 gr d'all 1 gr de sal i pebre 5gr de maizena 4 cull d'OOV 1/2 ceba 1/2 pastanaga 1/2 branquet d'api 10 cull de tomàquet triturat 1 fulla de llorer parmesà en pols al gust 300gr de tallarines Florence Aurora

I have been working at this school for 5 years, full-time since november 2017.
I have been working in the education sector since 2010, in schools as a teacher as well as doing Theatre In Education (TIE).
I love theatre and I love nature.
My favourite thing to teach in my drama lessons is team work; when I see students working together, with awareness of each other and in harmony to tell a story.
I would recommend my students to continue to do things that bring them passion, the things that inspire them, even if no one else is interested in doing them. That's not to say that we must only do things that we are passionate about, but that we should continue to do them alongside whatever else we have to do, because it is those things that you will find beauty and fulfillment.
