STEM Professionals go back to school What is it? - Initiative that facilitates matching of companies and school through online tool - Once matched school & company receive info package / preparation material - During STEM discovery week (April/May) the STEM Professionals go to the school for half a day to talk to students & teachers about their career etc. Why should you engage? - Get connected to schools and teachers on the ground - Inspire your own STEM employees and give them opportunity to share their passion for STEM - Have a direct impact on young people - Low investment from your side, big impact.

Identify the person that will keep the contacts with the school

Choose the right professional – Be sure he/she is an expert in STEM, he/she is young or can good relate with students; he/she is passionate about his/her job; he/she is a good communicator
•
Get inspired – Take a look at the STEM Alliance repository of practices, www.stemalliance.eu/practices
•
Decide on the main objectives – topic, link with curriculum, key messages and expected outcomes
•
Obtain consent – picture and video permission
•
Spread the word about the visit – social media, etc..

STEM Professionals Go Back to Schools – The Booklet Step 2 – Align expectations with the school • Contact the school and define the objectives and the contents of the visit • Agree on the timeline and logistics for the visit – discuss with the school the details of the agenda they previously sent you • Discuss with the teacher the follow up of the event

STEM Professionals Go Back to Schools – The Booklet Step 3 – Prepare your presentation • Prepare the content of you lesson in line with the objectives agreed with the school • Ask yourself some questions – What is the purpose of PGB2S? How did I structure my presentation? What will be my audience? Etc etc • Be sure to show the link between your job and STEM subjects • Use some examples of your daily life to support your story • Please remember you are not advertising your company – you are there as a STEM professional

Plan ahead – schedule, logistic, etc..

Make it easy for the pupils – remember that you are speaking to pupils aged between 6 and 18 years old.

Immerse them in practical activities– it will be easier to catch their attention for a longer period of time

Be a model – you are dealing with your students, therefore you behaviour can influence them

Keep in touch with the school– For more collaborative activities
