Session Vision

VI SI ON FOR VI CE PRESI DEN TS

One key attribute that we are looking for in our VPs is confidence. With Antwerp 2021, we will be looking to implement a ‘flat hierarchy’ style of leadership for the Board. As a result, we will have equal decision makers across the board, allowing us to put our heads together to devise solutions to complex problems. As a result, successful VP applicants will be confident enough to propose solutions to the problems that will no doubt emerge, but also confident enough to respect different potential approaches. Confidence will also be important for VPs when working directly with the Chairs’ team, especially when making judgement calls; to intervene or not to intervene during crunch periods as an example. Another key attribute that we are looking for in our VPs is a strong grasp of chairing knowledge. The session vision discusses the ‘discovering (of) all boundaries’. With this in mind, we hope to encourage Chairs’ to try something new when working with their delegates. However, it is entirely possible that some Chairs’ may find that what they tried to implement did not work. With this in mind, I want them to be assured in the knowledge that they have a safety net; you and I, dear reader! However, this does not necessarily mean you need extensive experience as a Chair; rather, you should be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of the role.

Finally, we are looking for VPs who will be willing to engage with the session vision, thinking creatively about how we can implement key principles in practice. Indeed, the VPs at Antwerp 2021 will contribute to the overall success of the event
