Welcome
Welcome Producers Lab Toronto is an initiative created by European Film Promotion (EFP), in collaboration with the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) and the Toronto International Film Festival® (TIFF). It aims to facilitate and increase international co-productions between European and Canadian producers and strengthens the networking between the participating professionals from both continents.
The first co-production between participants just finished shooting: the Irish – Canadian feature film Stay, directed by Wiebke von Carolsfeld produced by the Producers Lab Toronto participants Martina Niland (Ireland), Martin Paul-Hus and Andrew Boutilier (Canada), all three participants of 2010.
2012 is the third year of the Producers Lab Toronto. Modelled after EFP’s annual PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE project, Producers Lab Toronto brings 24 experienced feature film producers from across Europe and Canada for a three-day programme at the start of the Toronto International Film Festival. The feedback from last year's group confirmed that the mandate and model of this networking platform was a success.
Financial support for Producers Lab Toronto is again provided by the MEDIA Mundus programme of the European Union, the participating EFP members, the OMDC and TIFF with support from Telefilm Canada. We welcome our new partner Eurimages.
The European producers and their Canadian counterparts have the chance to exchange ideas and knowledge and build a foundation to pursue concrete co-production opportunities. Producers Lab Toronto’s participants benefit from the significant presence of the international film industry in Toronto, which offers them an unparalleled platform to pitch their projects. The feedback from previous participants confirms that the mandate and model of this networking initiative was very successful. Almost all participants of 2011 are still in contact, 17 of them are discussing 18 concrete projects. ® Toronto International Film Festival is a registered trademark of the Toronto International Film Festival Inc.
We are certain that this year's participants will enjoy similar success.

Els Vandevorst
N279 Entertainment, The Netherlands
Project in Producers Lab Toronto: Brimstone Logline: The life of a young woman (and her family) is turned upside-down when a new preacher enters her life. In four chapters we see not only how she will have to fight for what she had, but also how things got to that point. Els Vandevorst had already scored success as a producer during her days at film school when she produced Mike van Diem's short Alaska which won a Student Oscar. She has subsequently worked in the Netherlands and internationally, (co-)producing films by such acclaimed directors as Lars von Trier, Alexander Sokurov, Ineke Smits, Stijn Coninx, Christophe van Rompaey and Ágnes Kocsis. Els currently has projects by Nanouk Leopold, Vincent Bal and Zaza Rusadze in post-production. In 2003, she collaborated with Martin Koolhoven on the feature South and followed this five years later with Winter In Wartime. The international artistic and commercial success of this latter film led them to setting up the joint production company N279 Entertainment. Development is now underway on a new feature for Koolhoven, the thriller Brimstone, which already has Belgian and UK companies onboard as partners. Els has never worked with Canada before, but considers Brimstone as having the potential for a transAtlantic co-production.
