Welcome

Welcome Producers Lab Toronto is an initiative created by European Film Promotion (EFP), in collaboration with the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) and the Toronto International Film Festival® (TIFF). Producers Lab Toronto aims to facilitate and increase international co-productions between European and Canadian producers and strengthens the networking between the participating professionals from both continents. For its fourth year, Producers Lab Toronto 2013 has added Australia and New Zealand as guest countries. Modelled on EFP’s annual PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE project, Producers Lab Toronto brings together 20 experienced feature film producers from across Europe and Canada and a total of four producers from Australia and New Zealand for a three-day programme at the start of the Toronto International Film Festival. The participants have the chance to exchange ideas and knowledge and build a foundation to pursue concrete co-production opportunities.

They also benefit from the significant presence of the international film industry in Toronto, which offers them an unparalleled platform to pitch their projects. Financial support for Producers Lab Toronto is again provided by the MEDIA Mundus programme of the European Union, the participating EFP members, the OMDC and TIFF with support from Eurimages and Telefilm Canada. We welcome the New Zealand Film Commission and Screen Australia as our new partners. Renate Rose EFP, Managing Director

The 24 participants come together for a three-day programme of meetings, pitching sessions, case studies and panel discussions to encourage the financing, production and distribution of co-productions between Canada, Europe, New Zealand and Australia. The event is organized by: European Film Promotion (EFP) Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)

Screen Australia Screen Australia is the key Australian Government agency providing support for screen production. We develop, finance and market high quality, innovative and commercially attractive projects, with an emphasis on connecting with audiences, both nationally and internationally. We also administer the Producer Offset incentive and Australia’s Official Coproduction program. Screen Australia’s brief covers films for the big screen, as well as documentary, drama and children’s drama produced for television and the growing proliferation of small-screen platforms. We work together with our stakeholders towards the same goal: the success of Australian screen stories. We embrace change and look to break through barriers.

44

We believe Australian stories are vital for growing and developing our industry and our national identity. We want to achieve: • engaged audiences • compelling Australian storytelling • successful Australian screen businesses • highly skilled, creative and innovative industry practitioners

New Zealand Film Commission New Zealand (NZ) has three screen production incentive schemes. All offer cash grants to productions which achieve a certain level of qualifying NZ production expenditure. The Large Budget Screen Production Grant encourages large budget productions to film in NZ. Eligible formats can access a cash grant equivalent to 15% of Qualifying NZ Production Expenditure (QNZPE). To be eligible a project must have QNZPE of at least NZ$15m. Only NZ resident companies can apply. From 1 October 2013 TV projects may have a QNZPE of at least NZ$4m. The Post, Digital and Visual Effects grant provides a 15 % cash grant to productions which have incurred NZ$1m or more QNZPE on PDV Production in NZ.

The Screen Production Incentive Fund incentivises medium to large productions which have significant NZ content. Only NZ resident companies can apply. Eligible feature films can access a cash grant up to 40 % of QNZPE provided their QNZPE meets the minimum threshold of NZ$2.5m. TV productions can access a cash grant up to 20 % of QNZPE providing they meet the minimum threshold for the format. Grants are capped at NZ$6m per feature film and NZ$3m for other formats.
