Inspection & Maintenance
Safety Assured, Trust Secured
Formed at the start of the new millennium Eurosafe was created to offer fall protection systems to both existing and emerging marketplaces in the UK and Northern Europe.
Drawing on the director’s diverse range of experience gained from working for main contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, and the rope access industry, we set out to form a company based on innovation, service, and value for money whilst only ever offering the best quality products.
Working closely with clients since the year 2000 has led to the development of the Safety Circle®concept, where multiple components are required to ensure a robust health and safety plan is maintained and all the key components in the plan are looked at.
Eurosafe now offers a full range of services to complement this concept. We can provide a full risk assessment and evaluation of your site and its specific access requirements, specify and install the most suitable equipment to ensure the task is carried out safely, provide your staff with the correct PPE and equipment, and ensure they are sufficiently trained to use the equipment and carry out the works safely.
Finally, we can give you a long-term managed maintenance plan to ensure all equipment is in good working order at all times. A complete single-source range of services covering all aspects of your working at height and in confined spaces health and safety requirements.
Gavin Ellis, Managing DirectorAt Eurosafe, we believe that a holistic approach to height and confined space safety is essential for safeguarding your team and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Your Business Responsibilities
Legislation dictates that all Personal Fall Protection Systems, guardrail, ladders and stairs and facade access equipment are recertified by a competent company at various frequencies, or, as a minimum, once a year.
As an employer, facilities manager or building owner you have a duty to ensure not only that correct safety measures and equipment are in place but that this equipment is correctly maintained and in a suitable condition for use.
Ensuring that the work has been done to the highest standard, by a competent, qualified person who has experience and manufacturer training for the item he is inspecting, and that the company carrying out the works can carry out any repairs required, is vital to ensure the equipment is fit for purpose.
Correct management of your height safety equipment is vital and knowing your requirements could save your company time & money, as well as reducing any potential risks.
At Eurosafe we offer an extensive range of inspection and maintenance services all delivered in accordance with current British Standards; giving you, the duty holder, consistent peace of mind that your assets are appropriately compliant.
Eurosafe are approved, trained, and certified to inspect the following manufacturers systems:

Fall Protection Systems
Nearly every building needs some form of fall protection whether it’s for window cleaning, gutter & plant maintenance, or access between levels. As with any form of protection it is the duty holder’s responsibility to ensure that, prior to use, equipment provided is inspected by a competent person.
The Working at Height Regulations (WAHR) 2005 states ‘Every employer shall ensure that, where the safety of work equipment depends on how it is installed or assembled, it is not used after installation or assembly in any position unless it has been inspected in that position.’
Cable based systems, rail-based systems & single point anchors are all forms of fall protection, which should be inspected at least every 12 months.
It is also stated in the WAHR: ‘Where work is carried out at height, every employer shall take suitable and sufficient measures to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, any person falling a distance liable to cause personal injury’ which is why it is so important that all testing, inspection, and certification of fall protection systems are carried out in accordance with current British Standards; BS EN 795 & BS EN 7883.

Guardrails, Balustrades and Barriers
Although handrails and barriers are one of the simplest forms of protection equipment, they still require regular maintenance & inspections like any other form of protection. Regular inspections are critical because they provide peace of mind and help reduce the risks to workers.
The Working at Height Regulations (WAHR) 2005 & The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998 both state that such equipment should be inspected & maintained by a competent person; manufacturers suggest this should be a frequency not exceeding 12 months.
The duty holder is responsible to ensure that all the expected checks are followed through; this is the person who has, to any extent, control of premises; in plain English this means it could be the person in charge of health & safety, a manager, or a landlord.
It’s vital that everyone knows who the duty holder is to ensure everything is kept compliant with relevant standards. Regular inspections are critical because they provide peace of mind and help reduce the risks to workers.

Ladders, Steps and Stairs
Ladders, steps, stairs, and walkways need inspecting on a 12 month basis, checking for damage, corrosion or loose or incorrectly installed fittings to ensure that installations are still compliant with current legislation.
These inspections must be carried out by a competent person with suitable experience and training on the products they are assessing. After each inspection, Eurosafe will tag a unique reference number & provide a detailed report stating the date of inspection, any findings, and rectification measures need to make the equipment compliant and suitable for purpose.

Façade Access and BMUs
A vast array of equipment can be in use for the maintenance of building façades; often requiring a broad range of knowledge in its use and inspection due to its bespoke nature, no two buildings ever being the same.
This equipment can range from a simple rope access anchor point, rope access davits, monorails for rope access or cradles, travelling ladders and gantries for accessing atriums and roof lights through to large building maintenance units (BMUs) purpose made for the buildings that require detailed inspection regimes including electrical and hydraulic testing.

Lightning Protection
As with any form of protection it is the duty holder’s responsibility to ensure that lightning protection systems are regularly checked and maintained.
Inspections to lightning protection includes undertaking an earth resistance test using calibrated test meters in addition to visually checking the down conductors that are affixed to the wall for signs of damage or missing components; but most importantly the ‘airstrike’ components should be thoroughly inspected because these are the parts of the system which are most likely to be struck by lightning as they’re located on the roof.
It is recommended that lightning protection systems should be professionally checked at least once a year to guarantee that it can safely conduct a prospective lightning strike to an earthing point.
At Eurosafe, we provide regular lightning protection testing and inspection on an annual basis in accordance with the recommendations of BS6651:1999 for existing older systems and in line with BS EN 62305:2006 for modern systems.
Not only do inspections minimise risks but it’s also a requirement under the Electricity at Work Regulations – Reg 4 part 2:1989 to have lightning protection systems professionally maintained. The duty holder is responsible to ensure lightning protection inspections are followed out every 12 months (minimum) to ensure continuity.
PPE Inspection
It’s common knowledge that the purpose of PPE (personal protective equipment) is to keep workers safe and protected however to properly serve their purpose they must be regularly checked. Common issues with PPE can be general wear and tear, misuse and exposure to dirt, grit, UV light or chemicals; all of which can lead to damaged PPE that has lost its effectiveness. The Work at Height Safety Association (WAHSA) technical guidance brings together the recommendations of the PPE regs 1992, BS EN 365:2004 and BS 8347:2005 CoP, HSE Guideline INDG 367.
In order to stay compliant, it’s critical that employers establish an inspection regime, which should be drawn up by a competent person and followed out as required. The inspection regime should be specific to the site and should consider the frequency of use and the type of PPE provided.
The WAHSA technical note advocates that this regime should include inspection of equipment (including unique identification), the frequency & type of inspection (pre-use checks, detailed, interim inspection), actions to be taken, records of the inspections, as well as trained users & a designated competent person to ensure inspections are carried out.
Detailed inspections are expected to be followed out every 12 months as a minimum legal requirement under BS EN 365:2004. However, the recommended guidance under BS 8437: 2005 & INDG367 suggests that inspection intervals do not exceed 6 months or 3 months when used in arduous conditions such as demolition, steel erection, scaffolding, steel masts or towers with sharp edges.
