A LIVING MAP OF EUROPE Registered on 25.10.2008 Status: Active

Project details The project is based on covering a map of Europe with postcards sent from European schools. Subjects: Foreign Languages, Geography, Informatics / ICT, Primary School Subjects, Social Studies / Sociology Languages: English Pupil's age: 7 - 14 Tools to be used: e-mail, Other software ( Powerpoint, video, pictures and drawings), Web publishing Aims: 1) to create a "living" map of Europe, covering a map with postcards from schools all over Europe2) to let the students see that Europe is not an empty word but a place where real people live 3) to establish contact with European schools 4) to use ICT in communication between schools 5) to make the students learn the names of European countries and their cities in a funny and interesting way 6) to teach the students the way of writing postal address in other countries Work process: Schools taking part in the project will send postcards to one another... On the postcards the students will write simple greetings in English. They will also have to address the postcards in the proper way. Received postcards students will attach to a big map of Europe. When the whole map is ready, it will be photographed and the photo will be placed on the project's blog. . Expected results: Students will write greetings in English and they will address the postcard. Students will create a "living" map of Europe Students will share their result with others, taking photos of the map and placing it on the project's blog ...

Dear teachers, My name's Irini and I'm a tacher of English in Primary Education. I teach English in Agiorgitika and Nestani, two small villages situated in the prefecture of mountainous Arcadia in Peloponisos. My students are aged 9-11 years old and they are beginners in English. I teach English in a primary school in Helsinki Finland. My students are 913 years old and they have studied English only a few years. (The 9 yearolds have just started this autumn.) It is very interesting to participate in this project since it gives us an opportunity to see how English is actually spoken and studied all over Europe.
