IMPROVING BROILERS AND LAYER PERFORMANCE
BROILERS Key factors impacting on performance are:
• Chick quality, which is largely a breeder farm/hatchery issue. • Terminal clean-out and disinfection/fumigation to prevent carry over diseases (only if the cleaning and washing of the house is done well and the concentrations used for disinfection match the potential challenge, i.e using a 1:200 concentration effective against bacteria when the challenge has been IBD and can only be killed at 1:50, if at all, will only create a false sense of security. • Microbial buildup occurring on a continuous basis during the growth cycle:
- The gradual build-up of a micro-organism challenge, usually bacterial, as the birds grow into the house. - Entry into the house of a viral challenge. - The drop in the birds natural immune system's capacity to resist these microorganism challenges arising from stress caused by increasingly crowded conditions in the house as the birds develop. - The additional but temporary drop in the immune system's capacity arising immediately after vaccination. To overcome the affects of these factors vaccination programs are implemented and antibiotics added to the feed or administered through the drinking water. A safe alternative would be to use the F10 CL GENERAL FARM DISINFECTANT prevention programme throughout the growth cycle (except for 24hours before and 48hours after the vaccination). F10 CL can be applied as an over-spray, primarily to reduce the viral challenge and reduce airborne bacteria or administered through the drinking water to reduce the affect of the bacterial challenge. A study of the use of F10 disinfectant over a period of 7 broiler cycles on a 12 house site has shown excellent results. This performance was achieved without the administration of antibiotics in the feed or the water.
