IT was a great end to the SAMM race season and the final results calcula tion emphasised what a great, closely fought sail ing season SAMM com petitors had enjoyed. This was despite the fact that, for various rea son which included bad weather, other events scheduled at CTD and Covid cases among offi cials and competitors, the planned 18 races were re duced to just eight. The results show a good distribution of first and second places among the competing boats which emphasised the very close, hard fought compe tition all through the sea son.To calculate the final results the points of the worst two race results were dropped for every boat and this gave very tight final scores. Just three quarters of a point separating the winning boat Ginetta from the second placed boat Shoestring Dos and, a quarter of a point sepa rating Dos and the third place boat, Shoestring Uno.The autumn season is scheduled to start on Oc tober 9.

SC TORREVIEJA’S third pre­season clash resulted in a much­needed win for the Costa Blanca club. It was the club’s first win of pre­season, not including the penalty shootout win in the San Roque de Callosa trophy. On this occasion, the Salineros, who will play in the Primera Regional, beat CD Murada who will play in a higher division, the Regional Preferente. More than 100 million peo ple, both nationally and internationally, were able to follow the festival through social net works, press, radio and television. The second Brilla Torrevieja had 26 perfor mances programmed on the different stages spread throughout the city.

ONLY two doctors were reportedly working the emer gency rooms of Torrevieja Hospital over the weekend, according to a report from Plataforma Sanidad ‘Exce lente’.Sanidad Excelente said that people from Torrevieja, Orihuela, Guardamar, and other surrounding areas, who had to travel to the emergency room of Torrevie ja Hospital between Friday, August 19 and the early hours of Monday, August 22, had only two doctors available to attend to them during most of that time.

The mayor explained that the works consist mainly of the demolition of the north road of the hotel plot, in cluding all its services, the masonry wall that borders the beach and the access stairs to it, the removal of debris and granular material not suitable as beach sand, screening of the existing sand under the vial, the ex traction of a fine surface lay er of sand on the dry beach without vegetation of El Al tet beach and its transfer to the hotel plot.

A 19-YEAR-OLD man died of a cardiac arrest on Saturday, August 20 after being pulled from the water following a near-drowning incident in a reservoir in Valencia Province’s Cortes de Pallás. The tragic incident oc curred at around 3pm in Cortes de Pallás, in the re gion of Valle de AyoraCofrentes.Aneyewitness notified the emergency services after they spotted a person strug gling in the water of the Cortes de Pallás reservoir. Paramedics quickly ar rived at the scene, according to local news sources, and were able to pull the young man, who was believed to be of Ecuadorian nationality, from the water alive. However, the 19-year-old was in cardiac arrest. The paramedics began CPR while a SAMU ambu lance and medical helicopter were dispatched to the scene.Sadly, despite their best efforts, paramedics and am bulance staff declared the young man dead at the scene.The coroners will deter mine whether the young man nearly drowned as a re sult of the cardiac arrest or whether it occurred after he was pulled from the water.

EDUARDO ITURRIZAGA has been declared Spanish Chess Champi on for a second consecutive year while his Beniajan clubmate Dani il Yuffa came second. Beniajan Chess Club’s Eduardo Iturrizaga, who recently played chess with the Spanish National Team at the Chess Olympiad in Chennai (India), won the Spanish Chess Championship 2022, which he dedicated to the memory of the club’s sports director, Emilio Sánchez Jerez, who passed away at the end of June. A COUPLE who flew into Murcia earlier this month returned home to a speed ing fine despite being away at the time of the offence. Gary Thornburn and Clare Beads are contesting a speeding fine issued to them while they were on holiday in Spain. The couple used a Meet and Greet service at Manchester Airport on Au gust 3 for the couple’s Volk swagen Golf GTI before jet ting off to Murcia for a summer getaway.

A 45-YEAR-OLD female driver at the wheel of a high­powered Porsche somehow managed to smash into another Porsche parked outside a home in Madrid on, Sat urday, August 20. The im pact of the collision left the parked vehicle lodged on top of the woman’s car.According to a spokesman for Emergen cies 112 Community of Madrid, the driver hit the parked car with such force that both vehicles went through the garden wall of a house on Calle Henares de Caceres de Al cala in the capital. After receiving the alert, the 112 emergency operators immediately deployed three fire appli ances from the Communi ty of Madrid to the loca tion. They oversaw the removal of the two vehi cles from the wall, with a tow truck subsequently pulling them free.

The driver who caused the incident was trans ferred to Alcala de Henares Hospital. She was reportedly treated for an anxiety attack.

We found out a little more about the newest member of our team. Tell us a bit about your self Isabella ­ what subjects do you enjoy? As I am starting a comic strip for your newspaper, everyone would probably expect me to say that I en joy Art. Well, you are all right.Through art I find and lose myself at the same time. I enjoy every second when I am creating. This year I will be studying GC SEs in Art and Drama. I love Maths and English too. When did you start creat ing comics? My father wrote some books and film scripts. At present one of his projects is being produced as a graphic novel. He works with a famous artist, draw ing for some of the greatest brands in the games and comics industry. I tried to contribute on some occasions, but of course, it is difficult to start as a top professional. My parents invested in art sup plies. Later, I got an iPad, and I asked my father to send samples of my work to some newspapers ‘just to try’. The rest is history, as they say. Is this something you hope to have a career in? I believe that one day I will be a good architect and artist. Already, some of my works are on the walls of classrooms, offices and homes. I participate in art competitions and many people wear my hand crafted jewellery. I love bringing beauty and joy to people. What sort of subjects do you most love to concen trate on? It is difficult for me to commit ­ at least so far. I am experimenting with dif ferent media, styles and materials. After finishing an acrylic painting, I will im mediately start wood or stone carving. I do macramé, work with co conut shells and clay. ACCORDING to a study published on Thursday Au gust 18 by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF), around 17 per cent of the population of Europe is highly likely to be suffering from a signif icant water shortage by 2050. This will have a notable effect on the economy, potentially affecting 13 per cent of Europe’s GDP.The Nature Association of Portugal (ANP), which works closely with the WWF on a local level, has warned that the study “shows that Europe will be increasingly prone to droughts and water short ages” and has highlighted the need “for urgent ac tion to be taken by governments and businesses to increase the resilience of societies and the economy, particularly through nature­based solu tions.”Thestudy also shows the severe effects that the current extreme temperatures are having on the rivers of Europe. I REALLY do appreciate some of the mail sent by readers of my weekly waffle. Mind you sometimes they re ally contain more flimflam than the ol’ boy’s column itself. Even this assumption was not specifically true, I don’t blindly support a party who of ten find it difficult to face up to obvi ous problems, including the forgoing of realistic efforts to prevent the dis integration of British culture; the fact is, whatever my choices, I would just never sanction the woke induced left ies, simple as that. This reader also insinuated that the UK had condoned the last 12 years of liars; he appeared to forget that the ‘New’ Labour government who pre ceded the Conservatives, was used as a gravy train by a young, utterly right wing schemer and his conspiratorial wife, who even insisted on changing the name of the utterly demolished opposing party to further his own ends. An extremely ambitious opera tor, Mr Blair then proceeded to run the country into the ground, (not him self or the wife of course!) In close league with another American crook, he also sent the UK into a disastrous war for a recompense of cheap oil. Finally realising he had screwed the UK all he could and his game was up, with perfect timing he ran out, leav ing the last two years of leadership to his power hungry partner Gordon Brown; a self­indulgent idiot who, dripping with self­gratification, then dispelled his own ridiculous party of losers into total oblivion, basically by finally even selling off most of the country’s gold for a pittance, which actually resulted in his chancellor un believably leaving a note in the office of his successor, stating that there was in fact ‘no money left.’

And you really want to support the same people who voted this bunch in to power, a party which now includes the influx of millions of refugees and immigrants, who have since joined up and are basically mindful that a win by the left will eventually transform the culture of the whole country? Heaven help the UK. It has already lost hundreds of lu crative businesses through EU schem ing and financial exploitation, and voted out Boris, the one man who would have seen through their treachery and given Brexit a success ful consequence to all its brilliant UK ambitions. Prepare yourselves for a glut of UK strikes. They make great election ammunition and for the next couple of years the leftie enthusiasts, the media and the Labour party will absolutely love ‘em! IT seems that whilst the rising cost of living is affecting coun tries around the world that Britain is in a worse position than many. No matter what your politics may be or your stance in Brexit, the situation in Spain whilst bad, is nowhere near as dire as it is in the UK. Whilst the politicians who encouraged a Brexit vote and those who followed that advice were not able to forecast the future, it seems that the European Union has been the finan cial saviour of both Italy and Spain with the billions pumped into the economy from the recovery fund.

There is currently no leadership in the country and the To ry party is becoming increasingly divided over the leader ship election and it seems likely that if, as expected, Liz Truss wins, then senior politicians such as Rishi Sunak won’t find a place in her future cabinet. At long last, the Labour Party has come up with a plan, but a bit like Baldrick’s in Black Adder, it’s a bit pointless as there won’t be another election until 2025, so whatever it champions has every chance of simply being ignored whilst the country suffers from strike after strike and rampant infla tion.

Prices start from €47,290/£39,860 for the Sport model which comes with standard features such as LED lights with adaptive high beam assist, keyless start, navigation with smartphone integra tion, cruise control, auto matic wipers, climate con trol and heated front seats.My test model was at the higher end of the range, the AMG Line Pre mium Plus with diesel power under the bonnet. While it may carry the AMG name the AMG Line versions have all the styling cues, but the me chanical side of things re mains unmolested in terms of power. The 1.9litre diesel in the test car produces 265 hp and be ing diesel maximum torque is low down from just 18002200rpm. Inside the CClass you would be hard pressed to tell it’s a diesel providing the not incon siderable accelerative ca pacity. Also the mid 50s fuel economy is impres sive for a car of this class. Inside it makes a pleas ant change to find a car, especially a German mod el, that isn’t graced with a surfeit of sombre tones, most often black or grey. Lightening up my test car’s interior, and adding a dash of additional class, were tobacco coloured centre seat panels and matching door cards. With the rest of the interi or in darker colours matched to the external grey paintwork it made for a nice contrast. On the road the C­Class is a refined and smooth drive with plenty of pow er in reserve should you require it. A sleek style, despite being a saloon, makes for a striking look and doesn’t really com promise headroom access to the rear as is the case with many rakish saloons. The suspension draws a nice line between being compliant enough to soak up the bumps but with enough control to deal with twisty tarmac. Add driving modes of Comfort, ECO, Sport, Sport+ and In dividual and you can see why it makes for an exem plary sports Mercedessaloon.has had a reputation of being slight ly more sedate than some rival German competitors but has more than lev elled the field with the CClass AMG Line models. THE Costa Blanca Walking Football League (CBWFL) Cup Tournament spon sored by Clydegrove Golf & Transfers will kick off the new CBWFL season on Friday September 2 in For mentera del Segura at 10am.The seven competing teams are split into two groups (see photo ). Two strong groups which should lead to some close exciting matches.

On Tuesday August 16, Hondon Valley Flyers hosted the Red Lions of Fortuna in a return friend ly match. In the previous match two weeks ago, The Lions had surprised Hondon with a great per formance at home to win 5­2.Flyers on this occasion took hold of the game in the early stages, but hard work by the Lions, keep ing their shape saw them take the lead. Lions missed an opportunity to go further ahead with a penalty but the miss proved costly as Hondon regained their concentra tion and some excellent play saw them equalise. In a tight encounter it was the Red Lions who went ahead again with a powerful drive giving them the lead. Hondon stepped up a gear and equalised to pull level again.With both sides looking for the winner as full time neared and the ref checking his watch, it was Hondon who snatched the winner in the dying minutes with a cool fin ish.

Top two from Group A and the Group B winners will be joined in the Semi Finals by the winners of a play off be tween the third team in Group A and second team in Group B. The two semi final winners going on to theDefinitelyFinal. a tournament that should provide plen ty of entertainment for spectators. Free entry.
