Instead they are chipped and issued with a passport by a government vet, but must re main in Sue and Rod’s care.

The rainbow flag has been stolen twice in a matter of months.

EROSION and the sea have swallowed beaches in Are nales del Sol, La Marina and El Pinet since the spring storms.Thesituation in El Pinet is particularly serious, where waves are now reaching seafront buildings. These three areas belong to Elche and residents have rejected the solution put forward by the city’s mayor, Carlos Gonzalez, who insists that the eroded beaches should regenerate naturally. Several residents’ associations have joined forces as they seek solutions for what they described as the “bru tal” regression of Elche’s beaches. They are now calling for immediate action from coastal authority Costas, attached to the central govern ment’s Environment Ministry, as well as Elche City Hall. Both are “indifferent” according to the associations. They also want to participate with city hall in a specif ic working committee that can ensure ongoing dialogue between all involved and to back their claims that Costas is treating Elche’s beaches differently from oth ers elsewhere.

The mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, said that the “City Council of Lorca have begun work for the construction of a textile cover on the foot ball field Mundial 82 ‘Pa co El Lomas’.”

THE Guardia Civil discovered seven bodies, two of them children, in the waters off Pilar de la Horadada and La Manga between Sunday, August 28 and Monday, August 29. The bodies were discovered by the Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil. It is believed that the deceased were occupants of a patera which sank with 16 peo ple on board between the coasts of Alicante and the Region of Murcia.

A 64-YEAR-OLD man died in a private pool in Murcia’s Corvera on Thursday, August 25. According to the emergency services, a call for help was made at around 2pm after the man suddenly stopped swimming.Thepeople who called the emergency services had pulled the man from the water and were per forming CPR until the paramedics arrived. When ambulance crews arrived at the ur banisation in the Corvera district of Mur cia, they found the man unconscious.Themedical profes sionals continued with cardiopulmonary resus citation manoeuvres, however he was pro nounced dead at the scene.Local Police units from Murcia and medical units from the 061 Emer gency and Health Care Emergency Management Service were also dis patched to the scene.

THE San Fulgencio City Council took to Facebook on Monday, August 29 to thank local residents, performers, local businesses and alike for a “wonderful summer of fiestas in the urbanisations of SanFulgencio.” The council highlighted the “classical music concert, the 1920s craft market, the Spanish concert, the tribute to Aretha Franklin and the amazing Mr Hyde with fireworks and of course, our famous foam party” as standouts of the summer.“Hopefully, there was something for everyone,” the council wrote. “It was fantastic to see so many people of all nationalities come together to enjoy each event and feel so much positivity. “Thank you so much to everyone who attended. A young man, who was the only survivor, said at the time that 16 people were on board when it suffered a blow from the sea. AS reported by Spanish air port operator Aena through its social networks, Monday, August 29, saw a trouble some few hours in the after noon at the Adolfo Suarez Madrid­Barajas airport. The presence of drones entering airspace in the vicinity of the facility caused five incoming flights to be diverted to oth er regional airports. Flights arriving into the capital from around 6:30pm were subsequently tem porarily redirected to the Va lencia, Alicante, and Val ladolid“Diversionsfacilities.and delays are taking place. The Guardia Civil, Enaire, and Aena, are working together to restore operations. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but safe ty comes first,” Aena stressed. It is believed the Guardia Civil attempted to shoot the offending drones out of the sky. An investigation has re portedly been launched into the incident. At around 7.30pm, both Aena and the air traffic con trollers reported that the Guardia Civil had given the go­ahead to resume opera tions.

A GANG of robbers, posing as Guardia Civil officers has been dismantled in Tenerife. The four detainees allegedly had a long criminal record and always acted with great violence. On Monday, August 29, the Guardia Civil confirmed they had recovered more than €240,000 from various thefts. Robbery involving violence, illegal de tention and breaking and entering are the main crimes that the four detainees and four others investigated for these acts are charged with.

The investigation began at the be ginning of the year following a violent robbery, committed in a prestigious company located in the south of the island of Tenerife, where the victims were gagged and beaten. In a robbery carried out in the town of Abades (Arico), the perpetrators, after identifying themselves as Guardia Civil officers, stopped a worker in charge of transporting cash. The victim was tied up and the robbers fled with the mon ey.

A FAMILY from Ribadumia, Galicia, have been re united with their dog Lua, after she went missing for five years. The family’s beloved pet, a York shire terrier, was found in Boiro, Galicia. When Maria Jose, Lua’s owner, picked up the phone, she could not believe what she was hear ing. A PERPETRATOR of identity theft, of Spanish nationality and who has a police record, has allegedly committed the theft of his twin brother’s ID in order to avoid paying traf fic fines. The man had previously lost six points on his broth er’s driving licence, after driving a vehicle under the influence of Accordingalcohol.tothe Spanish National Police, in August 2021, the complainant thought he had lost his Na tional Identity Document (DNI) after forgetting his wallet in his brother’s vehi cle, so he renewed it with out further ado, until last Ju ly when he found it at his fa ther’s home. Twin steals brother’s ID

THE Guardia Civil located three girls lost dur ing the night after becoming disorientated in the Donana Natural Area, Huelva, Andalucia. Officers were alerted to the plight of three disorientated girls located somewhere in the interior of the Donana Natural Area, be tween Matalascanas and Mazagon, the Guardia Civil confirmed on Sunday, August 28.The Guardia Civil managed to contact one of the girls by phone, so that she could de scribe the area and send the location with her mobile phone. After sending the geolocation, the patrol led the search to the designated point which was already in darkness with hardly any visi bility. The officers were unable to see the girls and deduced that the coordinates of the location had changed due to the weak signal in the Afterarea.inspecting the ground, the officers found fresh footprints and followed them. After approximately half an hour of walking, at midnight, the officers heard the girls’ re sponses to their calls. The girls were rescued during the night.

LONDON STANSTED has received planning permis sion from the Secretary of State for the develop ment of an airport solar farm, it announced on Thursday, August 25. The 14.3MW solar farm will be on land al ready owned by Stanst ed immediately to the east of the airport at High House Farm. The development is designed to meet the airport’s cur rent and increasing elec tricity demands, includ ing from the growing use of electric vehicles, and is in keeping with the air port’s commitment to make its operations net zero carbon by no later than 2038. The new UK surgical hubs aim to combat the Covid backlog by providing at least 100 more operating theatres and 1,000 more beds to de liver millions more operations. They will deliver almost two million extra routine operations to reduce waiting lists over the next three years.

Credit: Twitter @policia AS reported by media sources, on Wednesday, August 24, the 25‐metre‐long skeleton of what could possibly be the largest dinosaur to be found in Europe has been uncovered in a backyard in the city of Pombal, in the Leiria District of central Portugal. It is believed the remains might be that of a sauropod dinosaur which would have stood approxi mately 12 metres tall, and they are currently being studied by an international research team. It all started in 2017 when the owner of a property carrying out construction work noticed the presence of several fragments of fos silised bones in his yard. He subsequently contacted the re search team which carried out its first excavation in that same year.

I NEVER chose to be a noncon formist. Sitting here at 83 years of age and looking back over decisions made when you once again found yourself physically anewed, it is painfully obvious that choosing to remain within society as an ‘anti‐so cial’, was, at the very least going to be difficult and certainly not make you the winner of many popularity contests. Of course, at the outset you don’t know who, or even what you are. As a new manifestation you simply go with the flow. There is no set beginning to nonconformity, it is something that just happens. There does however become a point when the choice has to be made. You ei ther drop out or stay in. Well, I (finally) chose to stay in. Al though, through my spiritual lean ings, which were later to become permanent, I was offered a host of escapes, ie, Hippie communes, be coming a Tibetan monk, taking the junkie route, membership of numer ous cults, including the highly dan gerous Scientology and all of its pa thetic offshoots, specifically designed to control the weak, I re alised that to have any chance of in fluencing events in a society I al ready basically didn’t agree with, I simply had to stay a part of it. Politics would have been an obvi ous choice I suppose, but unfortu nately, in my day, to enter into the political arena you had to either be a total conformist, a complete hyp ocrite, or an old boy with connec tions (no change there then!) In my early teens I had already been fortu nate enough to meet my future wife and was actually looking forward to a loving relationship and hopefully a new family. I had always loved the smell of greasepaint and the cre ation of songs ‐ so to remain a true member of society, I chose Showbiz. Ha! The most hypocritical occupa tion of them all. Typical examples of this profession that I have never been able to abide are the egotisti cal multi‐millionaires who, followed by cameras and hangers on, spend their non creative breaks wandering between mud huts, trying to make us all feel bad and responsible for the ills of the world, before scurrying back to their existence of cosseted grandeur and luxury. For heaven’s sake give us all a break and stick to your lives of fantasy, where you all belong.Ofcourse, 50 years ago my realisa tion that if you really wanted to de liver and receive widespread opin ions on your points of view, writing was by far the most expedient; so, I have pursued it relentlessly, through a long life that has so far actually been almost yo‐yo like in its exis tence. While the BoE raised interest rates by 50bps - its largest increase in 27 years - it spooked GBP investors with its accompany ing forecasts as it warned the UK is highly like ly to slip into a recession this year. Pensioners are already shivering in Europe, not be cause of the cold as yet, but because of the thought of having to find the money to pay for winter heating and families are having to rely on food banks in order to feed themselves and their children.

Tamsin Brown CAMPING is a great experi ence and an ideal way of disconnecting from the stress of everyday life, but being in an uncontrolled natural environment means that you will need to be prepared and think about your Remembersafety.that camping laws vary from country to country. Firstly, set up your tent on flat and stable ground that is well away from the sea or river bank. Consider the wind when pitching your tent. If there is a strong breeze, you will need to pitch your tent up wind to stop it from being blown over. Do not camp in prohibitedEstablishedsites.camping ar eas are minimally super vised by the authorities and are theoretically safe spaces, so you should fol low the rules and limit your self to these areas. It is dan gerous to build campfires. A portable gas cooker is a much better choice, as a campfire could get out of control and cause a fire. If you do decide to have a campfire, at least try to keep it away from the tents. Be prepared and always carry a basic first aid kit, a mobile phone with a charged battery, a compass, a map of the area with the nearest villages on it, a sup ply of non­perishable food (eg canned food) and plenty of water to keep you hy drated.Finally, stay in a group and avoid exploring alone. As a precautionary mea sure, always inform a family member or friend of where you are going and when you plan to return.

WHEN camping away from your home comforts, it can be difficult to know what type of food to take with you. Having the right camping equipment, like a camping stove, can considerably increase your breakfast options for the most important meal of the day. A sandwich is one of the easiest meals to eat in any situation and breakfast is no exception, especially when you’re camping. Heat up some hot water or milk, pour over oats and top with your favourite toppings, such as nuts or dried fruit. THERE are press reports that ‘staycation fatigue’ has resulted in a slump in bookings at domestic hotspots and even the prospect of airport delays and flight cancellations is not stopping people heading abroad. But it’s not ‘staycation fatigue’ at all! It’s things getting back to where they were pre­pandemic. How can you possibly compare last year’s sum mer holidays when there were travel restrictions? The last two years’ holi day statistics shouldn’t be used. Everything needs to be com pared with 2019’s. This shows, too, the lack of any sense of proportion among anxious local councils, National Park Authorities and the Welsh Government. This swing back was inevitable and entirely predictable. Devon and Cornwall were complain ing about too many tourists. The Lake District National Park was planning to close public roads to all but residents. And the Welsh Government want to charge a tourist tax as well as price out holiday lets with taxes. Surely even the daftest person could see that it was a temporary blip, due to the pandemic?

I LOVE dogs - I have a dog - and we sometimes take him with us when we go for a walk and stop for a coffee. He sits there very quietly look ing at everyone going past in the hope that they have a sausage or a bit of chicken. He usually has a drink of water and that’s it. For me, that is acceptable.Whatisn’t is if your dog is a ‘yapper’ - usually a tiny little thing that barks at every single per son that walks past and wants to fight every dog regardless of size. Yap, yap, yap non-stop. If that’s your dog do me a favour and leave it at home. I don’t need to hear it or you telling it to stop. It’s a nuisance and it’s annoying everyone. If I’m on the ‘phone to a helpline the last thing I need to hear is a message every few min utes for the first half hour that I should check your website to see if my problem can be solved there. Don’t you know that I searched that for an hour before I found hidden somewhere in the ‘contact us’ part a number which I’ve now been holding on for another eternity. I’ll tell you what I want. I want to speak to a human being that not only speaks English, but understands it too and I don’t want it to take four or five hours to do it. What are even more annoying are the companies that you can’t con tact by ‘phone at all. There should be a law that every company that takes the public’s money or holds personal information about them is duty bound to speak to their victims personally just like they did years ago before social media. It is incredible the amount of mega multi-national organisations that just ignore their punters. Here’s one for you. How many of you have bought an aerosol - in my case a mozzie spraybut it’s happened a few times with various sprays that after a few sprays it just packs up? It doesn’t matter how hard you press - nada, nothing. I shake it and can hear that it’s still got plenty left in it. So what do you do? Take it back or just chuck it? They aren’t cheap, about seven or eight euros a pop. I don’t have the receipt, but I feel the need to return it and see what happens. I’ll let you know.

AS with any other country in the world there are many different types of busi nesses here in Spain. Due to a European law passed a few years ago, some people do not need to have a qualification to run some kinds of businesses, that law was called ‘Omnibus’. What perhaps may surprise you is that only lawyers, doctors, dentists, architects, vets, nurses, teachers, pharmacists, and civil engineers need to be qualified and regulated to ply their trade. That means that if you wish to start any other business you can do so in Spain without a mandatory qualification or reg ulation by a governing body. Of course, you have to register as autonomo or form a limited company. For example, anyone in Spain can be an estate agent, they can be regulated by for example the API (Agente de la Propiedad Inmobiliaria), this is the largest Spanish re al estate organisation. The API title is is sued by the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Environment, after attend ing a training course and passing the quali fication tests. However, it’s completely optional.Youmay have noticed the large amount of consultants, experts, advisors and other people that are running business here showing no credentials re their own skills in their trade and without being regulated by any official body. So, if you’re going to instruct someone in Spain to provide a service, do your own due diligence before you instruct them. 3. Hip dysplasia is when one or more of your pup’s hip joints de velop abnormally, causing the femur to not fit properly in the hip and cause rubbing. Over time, this leads to their deformity, and arthritis which causes discomfort, pain and eventually loss of mobili ty and function in the affected joints. There are three options for surgical treatment: Femoral Head Osteotomy, a Double or Triple Pelvic Osteotomy and a Total Hip Replacement.

4. Intervertebral disc diseases, also commonly called IVDD, is a disease affecting your dog’s spine that appears in three types. Type 1 involves disk degeneration and rupturing of a spinal disc any where in your dog’s back, causing a sudden inability to walk. Type 2 is a slower‐acting bulging of the outer portion of the dog’s spinal cord, compressing the spine like in Type 1. Type 3 is a sudden tear in the outer part of the spine caused by excessive exercise or physical trauma. Spinal surgery is usually required.

2. Patella luxation. The patella, or the kneecap, normally sits quite comfortably in a groove above a dog’s knee between their femur and tibia. Due to a defect in the development of the knee, some dogs get the patella out of the groove and cause lameness. This con dition is relatively common in many smaller breeds of dog.

Priced from €86,412/ £72,830 the Mach­E GT comes very well equipped with performance seats, wireless phone charging, adaptive cruise, auto lights and wipers, high beam as sist and Bang & Olufsen sound system. A large cen tral screen offers most con trol functions and being Ford it is quite intuitive, and if you have to go digital then Ford generally make life easier.With the number of EVs growing it’s these specialist and more exciting models that will act as halo cars for EV adoption, and the MachE certainly falls into this cat egory. It’s comfortable and a superb drive whether in normal or untamed mode. My only problem, despite almost universal positives, is that the build quality doesn’t quite live up to that very high price tag. It just doesn’t have that certain something that makes a car feel premium. Look at the entry level Mach­E and it makes a much more appeal ing financial proposition.

WHEN you think of a Ford Mustang it evokes memories of the iconic Ford featured in the film Bullitt. A very American muscle car that even today packs a powerful punch with a 5.0­litre V8 petrol engine. However, there’s a new kind of Mustang prowl ing the roads in the shape of the all­electric Mach­E, a very modern and green in carnation of the traditional Mustang. With prices start ing from €59,357/£50,030 it has become almost as much a cult Ford as its petrol­pow eredThreestablemate.Mach­Emodels are available in standard or ex tended range; rear­wheeldrive, all­wheel­drive dual motor and a performance GT version. In GT form, which was my test model, there’s 487PS on tap and the 0 ­ 62 mph benchmark passes in just 3.7 seconds. There are three drive modes available in cluding a full fat untamed mode. From behind the wheel this astonishingly quick acceleration gives a real sense of drama and, al lied to adaptive suspension, provides an extremely en tertaining drive. It’s also more than capa ble in town which is where any EV is at its best and most practical. As ever the big question with an EV is range. The Mach­E GT will cover between 236 to 310 miles depending on condi tions. Urban driving invari ably means more braking so regenerative energy helps battery charging and hence range. On faster roads such as a dual carriageway or motorway the range doesn’t hold up quite so well. The UK’s charging in frastructure is lacklustre at best, so longer journeys do need to be planned.

Dr Sebastian Rudolph, Vice President of Com munications, Sustain ability and Politics at Porsche AG, speaking of the unique ‘Sally’ pro ject on Friday, August 12, said: “Vehicles need a face and a story, and the animated Pixar’s film ‘Cars’ has impres sively done just that: brought cars to life on the big screen.

The team included Jay Ward, Creative Director of Franchise at Pixar An imation Studios, and Bob Pauley, the Produc tion Designer who first drew Sally for the Cars film.They worked together to create a unique facto ry one­off.

“The story conveys values such as friend ship, love and mutual support ­ and in the middle of it all is a Porsche: ‘Sally Carrera’. Together with Pixar, we have brought the spirit of Sally to life in a new way, not on the screen, but off the screen. “With this one­off street legal 911, the ‘Sally Special’, which we are auctioning for chari ty, we want to help peo ple who urgently need support, quite in keep ing with the spirit of the film character,” he ex plained.Theproject began in November 2021 and united members of the original Cars team that brought both the film character and life­size Sally Carrera to life more than 20 years ago.

THE Costa Blanca Walking Football League Season (CB WFL) 2022/23 will commence on Thursday, September 15 with four teams participating and will consist of 12 rounds finishing on May 15, 2023. There will be a ‘Seasonal Break’ with no games in De cember or January.
