Carp-R-Us

ON a very windy, sunny but cold day, Terry Screen again showed his prowess on running water by finishing a clear winner of Round 5 of the Carp­R­Us Winter League on the Mercadona stretch.

Terry fished feeder tactics to take 7.94kg from near the reed bed at the end of the houses. He also lost four or five fish. Second, towards the other end of the stretch, was Nick Bastock who had 4.14kg of carp from the weed bed near the road on the pole.

Third was Ricard Crawshaw with 1.34kg and fourth was Jeremy Fardoe with 1.00kg.

TORREVIEJA Council have embarked on a major €4.2 million project to renovate La Siesta park. The project, lasting nearly two years, will transform the park to offer a dog park, outdoor theatre, skating rink, sports pitches and new landscaping.

Rescue relief

A UKRAINIAN woman living in Guardamar del Segura received treatment at hospital in Torrevieja after jumping from a four metre high balcony to escape her partner, a 35-year-old Spanish man during an argument. The man has been arrested.

Trail blazing

MORE than 5,300 avid runners hit the road for Santa Pola’s half marathon on Sunday, January 22. Benard Kipkurui soared to first place with a blazing time of 59:44. Beatrice Cheserek sprinted to victory in the women’s discipline at 1:07:49.

New Year

ELCHE’S Chinese community came together on Sunday, January 22 to celebrate the biggest Chinese Lunar New Year since before the pandemic. The community welcomed the Year of the Rabbit with parades, festivities and shared delicious traditional food.

Purrfect plan

THE last few tickets are on sale for a games night in aid of La Marina street cats. The games event costs €3 and will take place at Cheers Bar in La Marina from 4pm on Thursday, January 26.

Population boom

FIGURES released from 2022 revealed that Murcia’s population swelled to more than 450,000. Since 2020, an additional 2,349 people have registered as residents, bringing the total number of residents to 463,150. The increase in registration could lead to more funding.

TORREVIEJA Tennis Club

Youth Team debuted with a victory in the quarterfinals of the first division of the championship of the Valencian community.

The Junior Team that integrated Charo Esquiva, Carla Verdu, Mauro Espinosa, Vicent Mico and Fernando Martinez defeated the Tennis Club of Castellon and is set to face Valencia Tennis Club for a place in the final.

The boy’s infant team includes Mario Lozano, Angel Minguez, Oscar Pantoja and Miguel Lozano who defeated Valencia by 4 ­ 0 and they will meet Las Vegas of Valencia in the semi­final.
