JANUARY tourist spending in Spain reached €1.7 billion in the Canary Islands alone.

A total of 1.2 million international tourists arrived in the Canary Islands, spending a total of €1.7 billion, representing an increase of 58.5 and 50.9 per cent, respectively, indicating the figures have reached 2019 levels when no travel restriction was imposed. According to data by the Institute National Statistics Office (INE), 29 per cent of all tourists arrived in the Canary Islands, while 33 per cent of these came from the UK. The Canary Islands also represented a total of 32.7 per cent of total spending in Spain.
