The funds come under the umbrella of aid for unique projects of local entities that favour the transition to a lowcarbon economy.

The works consist of a renovation of the public lighting installations in the streets of the municipality, through the replacement of existing luminaires with new LED technology luminaires, in order to improve the energy efficiency of these outdoor public lighting installations.

Raising the barre

FOLLOWING their recent triumph in Níjar, Mojacar Municipal Rhythmic Gymnastics team is continuing on their lucky streak. The team secured another six medals in the first phase of the Costa de Almeria Cup held in Vícar on Wednesday, March 29.

This excellent result placed the team in an enviable position in the league and has given the team high hopes for the final at the Rafael Florido sports complex in Almeria. Their podium positions include a gold medal, three silver, and two bronze, across a range of categories with competitors as young as six collecting medals.

With 19 medals already under their belt, the Mojacar Municipal Rhythmic Gymnastics School has made an impressive start to the competition season. In their second year of competition, the team is already measuring up against the best from Almeria and other Andalucia provinces, an impressive achievement given the school’s recent establishment.

Team coach, María del Mar Montoya, has been working with the team for two years and will continue to hold training sessions after the competition season ends on Sunday, May 14, ensuring they don’t forget what they’ve learned over the summer.

The new luminaires are more efficient and have lower power, with builtin drivers or electronic equipment to regulate the lighting.

The lighting panels have been adapted to bring them into line with current regulations and columns and arms in poor condition have been replaced. Remote management systems have also been installed.

Bridging the gap

HUERCAL OVERA Town Hall has now inaugurated the San Isidro bridge in the municipality.

The bridge fulfils a historical demand of the residents of Huercal Overa, putting an end to a black spot on the roads of the municipality.

At the same time, the bridge has created a pedestrian cycle lane linking the Atalaya district and the hamlets with San Isidro and the town centre and beautifies this access.

This is one of the most important works in the municipality which, together with others in which the Diputacion has participated such as the new access to the Hospital de La Inmaculada, the restoration of the Railway Station and the construction of the ‘Hipodromo roundabout’, are making Huercal Overa a town in constant growth.

The president of the

Provincial Council, Javier A Garcia, confirmed: “The growth of HuercalOvera is linked to the province of Almeria.

“Our duty is to continue working on the needs demanded by the residents and to help this municipality, with its almost 30 districts and 300 kilometres of extension, to continue to grow.”

FOR those who like to take a stroll where better than a pretty park full of trees and life?

Almeria has now been given the goahead to restore El Boticario Park in the city. The project budget of more than €3 million.

The mayor of Almeria, Maria del Mar Vazquez, said: “This space is going to become an authentic natural museum, for environmental education and a recreational area that all people of Almeria will be able to access and enjoy.”

The mayor added: “This is a very ambitious project that will revive one of the city’s green lungs which, unfortunately, went from being a magnificent green space for the enjoyment of the people of Almeria to one of the biggest icons of the neglect of the previous socialist governments of the Junta de Andalucia.”

The design of the park is based on themed vegetation parterres, which allow the visitor to make a gradation of the main landscapes and Almeria ecosystems.
