ATHLETES in Almer’a got stuck into a nationwide solidarity non­stop relay race on Saturday, April 1. The relay race sees participants take part in 50 different regions, covering a total distance of more than 7,000 kilometres while raising awareness for the InvDup(15) syndrome, a rare genetic disorder which affects children.

The Almeria leg of the competition began at 8.30am from the regional border with

Granada at Mojaquera, with participants completing a challenging route before crossing the finish line at El Cable Inglés in Almeria around 7pm. The event featured teams composed of National and Local Police and members of the military.

IN March, the drop in unemployment was evident in all Andalucian provinces.

However, despite the favourable result, Almeria is the province where unemployment has fallen the least: only 311 people have ceased to be unemployed.

Nevertheless, registered unemployment stood at 54,879 people, the lowest figure for March since 2008.

This figure is far behind that of Sevilla, which is in the lead with 4,053 fewer unemployed, followed by Malaga, with 3,685; Cadiz, with 2,317; Huelva, with 1,897; Granada, with 1,655; Cordoba, with 964; and Jaen, with 402.

In year ­ on ­ year terms, Almeria is once ral Park, Rioja, and passed through several towns in the region.

Almeria councillor for Sports, Juanjo Segura, met the representatives for Almeria at Parque de las Almadrabillas after completing their leg of the race, alongside representatives for the 15Q Syndrome Foundation.

The national event aims to raise awareness and funds for the Inv/Dup 15Q Syndrome Foundation.

March figures

again the province with the least variation, with 4,497 ( ­ 7.57 per cent) fewer unemployed than in March of the previous year, in a list that is once again led by Sevilla (­17,706), followed by Cadiz (­15,527), Malaga (14,651), Cordoba (­6,670), Jaen (­6,602), Granada (­6,261) and Huelva (­5,565).

Andalucia led the way in March in the fall in unemployment in Spain, with 15,284 fewer unemployed registered in the offices of the public employment services, a figure driven by the drop in unemployment in the services sector due to hiring for Easter.
