ONE of the world’s top jams is made here in the Region of Murcia. The sister and brother team of Mari Paz and Francisco José Fernández from Archivel, a hamlet of Caravaca de la Cruz using their family recipe have placed themselves into the international elite of gastronomy. Their jam was voted in the top 10 in the world and its success is in its simplicity.

The jam which consists of just fruit and cane sugar sets itself apart from most other jams as it does not contain a long list of ingredients such as fructose syrup, gelling agents, potassium sorbate, or citric acid for example.

An investment of €2.6 million from the ‘Recuperation, Transformation, and Resilience Plan’ will fund this project.

The project consists of the construction of a six metre wide promenade which will have a bidirectional bicycle lane. It will be 1,280 metres in length and will connect the current Rihuete promenade with a new viewpoint, forming part of this project.

A concrete structure in the shape of a boat is planned as the viewpoint allowing neighbours and visitors to use its bow and its stern as vantage points. The walkways will be open to both pedestrians and cyclists.

The promenade will have 58 lighting structures eight metres high, 112 palm trees, 10 bike parking stands, benches every 30 metres, two accessible toilet cabins, eight footbaths, and almost 60 bins.
