TWENTY Marbled Teals were released, after spending a week in an acclimatisation cage, in the Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA) in the la‐goons of Las Moreras in Mazarrón. This release was part of the project called LIFE in which the community partici‐pates through the General Di‐rectorate of Natural Environ‐ment as a beneficiary partner.

The lagoons of Las Moreras are of international importance and are included in the Ramsar list.

The release of the Marble Teals was made possible due to the actions carried out in this area, 95 tons of debris was removed, 550 metres squared has been re‐vegetated with native plants and the fence has been mended to regulate the access to the area. The Marble Teal is the most endangered duck species in Europe, and cious ecosystem. This new water treat‐ment plant will have a capacity of 44,000 cubic metres and even during the heaviest rainfall the contaminated water will stay in this tank, it will then be treated and puri‐fied at these facilities.

Once the water is treated it will be used for irrigation purposes.

AN international computer scam network was uncovered operating in Lorca. They de‐frauded more than €5 million worldwide. The Guardia Civil arrested 25 people with two more still under investigation.

They are charged with the al‐leged crimes of technological fraud, money laundering, dis‐covery and disclosure of se‐crets, falsification of docu‐ments, and identity theft.

The Guardia Civil seized computers, 54 credit cards, and €42,000. The police offi‐cers said the scam is thought to have affected around 100 companies worldwide. The Guardia Civil called the opera‐tion ‘Balrog’, and they began to investigate when a series of scams were detected in which the fraudsters intercepted emails sent from companies to their customers.

The operation involved many police departments not only in Spain but around the world in order to bring down this network of scammers.

It is one of the best pre‐served unspoiled natural landscapes on the coast and because of this they usually restrict the access of vehicles in the area dur‐ing high season. On the days highlighted orange on the calendar you can access the area in your ve‐hicle until the parking is at its capacity. The speed lim‐it is 20km/h.

For the days highlighted in blue access is permitted by bus only between 9am and 830pm.

Please note that you cannot access the area by car, motorbike, etc during the hours of 8.30pm and 8am during this period, again, please see the cal‐endar.

The beaches affected by these restrictions are Monte de las Cenizas and Peña de Aguila.
