APPROXIMATELY 50,000 scuba diving aficionados practised in the region last year, some dived more than once making the total of dives in the region last year 68,200 according to the Association of Diving Centres in Murcia.

The association added, “During 2022, divers spent about €2 million in the centres, taking into account that these tourists spend about 20 per cent of their budget diving, the remaining 80 per cent is spent on accommodation, restaurants, and leisure.

“We can calculate that during the last year scuba diving has generated more than €6 million in the region.”

Two main factors make the Region of Murcia one of the best areas for scuba diving: the climate of course and the two marine reserves in Cabo de Palos

LOS ALCAZARES will host the second edition of the Splash­In seaplane event from April 28 until April 30 and will include a number of activities and exhibits for all of the family. The activities will take place at different locations in Los Alcázares.

Other diving areas of interest are Cabo Cope in Aguilas, La Manga ­ Isla Grosa, and Mazarron.

With five different diving areas along the Costa Calida where you can observe wrecks and cetaceans, it is easy to see why many are drawn to its waters.

Some of the activities include children’s theatres, a night safari on the tourist train, a Playmobil exhibit, a photography exhibit, and a market. There will also be a virtual flight centre on April 29 and 30 and of course plenty of opportunities to see the seaplanes in action.
