MORE than 50 teams from all over Andalucia, as well as Madrid and neighbouring Extremadura, converged in the picturesque town of Comares for the thrilling fourth Clásica Villa de Comares classic car rally on Saturday, May 13.
The event showcased vehicles over the age of 25 years old, with popular classics stealing the spotlight, including the iconic Renault 8, several Abarth replica Seat 600s, a whole fleet of Minis, and a swarm of VW Beetles. The magnificent machines were all in impeccable condition and showed up ready to conquer the roads of Axarquia.
The rally kicked off with a morning route covering an exhilarating 90 kilometres. Participants revved their engines and embarked on a route from the heart of Comares, tackling it in one go.
After lunch, the second section commenced, a more than 100 kilometre route split into six thrilling stages. This leg wound its way through the eastern reaches of Axarquia, where the race heated up.
Almeria pair, Antonio Salas and Ángel Salas, roared across the finish line first in their Alfa Romeo GTV. They outpaced the local team José Antonio Palma and his son, in their VW 1300, who claimed a commendable second place.
