NERJA buzzed with agricultural and labouring prowess as it celebrated San Isidro Day on Monday, May 15. The town immersed itself in traditional festivities, featuring vibrantly decorated lorries, tractors, and horses adorned with fresh flowers.

WITH hot weather more or less guaranteed for the summer, the Motril Council has decided to close the indoor municipal swimming pool at the end of May following the recent opening of the outdoor pool.
This then gives the council and its appointed operator Germanía Instalaciones the opportunity to completely renovate the interior of the building housing the pool with a complete renovation of the air conditioning systems, production of domestic hot water and solar thermal installation.
In addition, the current diesel boiler will be replaced by a more efficient natural gas boiler, which will result in a significant improvement in the building’s energy efficiency, lowering maintenance costs.
The work which is scheduled to take five months should see the pool reopening in time for the autumn season at an agreed cost of €615,890 and 80 per cent of this cost will be funded by European Federal Funds.

Monday’s celebrations began with a mass in honour of the patron saint, followed by a vibrant parade that wound its way through the streets. Spectators marvelled at the meticulously adorned displays, while refreshment tents offered drinks and snacks to keep everyone energised.
Mayoral candidates also decked out vehicles in support of their campaigns ahead of the country’s municipal elections set to take place on Sunday, May 28.
The event left a lasting impression on all who experienced the captivating display of agricultural pride and communal spirit, reinforcing the town’s commitment to honouring its agricultural heritage with a joyous celebration.
