Beachfront bliss
THE beachfront at La Herradura is set for a major transformation thanks to the beginning of the El Fuerte Hotels eco hotels project, and the Local Government Board is paving the way for its completion on time.
Led by Deputy Mayor Daniel Barbero, who is also the councillor for Tourism and Beaches, the board approved the hotel’s request to begin an Environmental Impact Study on Monday, May 22, marking a significant milestone in this ambitious project.
The Almuñecar City Council’s Local Government Board has given preliminary approval for the Partial Development
Plan. Now, however, it’s off to the Andalucian Regional Government to get the ball rolling on the Environmental Impact Study, which is an essen tial step before construction can begin on the planned five star luxury hotel.
Barbero said he believes that the comple tion of this grand beachfront hotel will take La Herradura’s tourism to the next level, attracting sustainably minded visitors and giving the local economy a boost, including the hospitality and retail sectors.
The hotel, called Daia Slow Beach Hotel, will be a swanky five star resort boasting 200 luxurious rooms.
It will grace the beautiful La Herradura coastline, occupying prime land that Hoteles Fuerte acquired more than 20 years ago.
The project aims to be completely eco friendly using sustainable materials while focusing on energy efficiency.
THREE firemen from the Almuñecar fire service were called out to assist colleagues from the Local Police and Civil Protection after a driver had an unfortunate mishap.

Somehow or other on Sunday May 21 they managed to park their car in a very unusual position as they drove over the sea wall above Playa Cotobro.
Although noone was hurt, the brown coloured car was left hanging vertically onto the beach and had to be winched out by the officers, leaving part of the wall damaged.
To date, no explanation has been given for how this particular accident occurred, but it certainly gave both members of the emergency services and bystanders something to talk about as possibly the strangest accident that anyone had seen.
