3x3 in Costacabana

THE Costacabana neighbourhood of Almeria has a new sports court for playing 3×3 basketball.

Located in El Charco, it will allow young and old not only to enjoy the sport, but the recreational area can be used to practise other sporting activities.

Organic production

ACCORDING to a report drawn up by the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, the area dedicated to organic production in Andalucia now exceeds 1.3 million hectares.

By provinces, in Almeria, protected crops stand out, mainly horticultural crops, which have grown by 8.5 per cent to over 4,750 hectares.

However, the ranking is led by Cordoba with 248,000 hectares, followed by Huelva (237,200 hectares) and Sevilla (206,300 hectares).

In the case of organic livestock, Andalucia has more than 5,400 farms; and in the case of industry, there are more than 3,350 after the recently new addition of 300.

The councillor for Rural Development, Vicente Perez, pointed out that “these figures highlight the importance of organic agriculture and livestock farming in Andalucia” and added that the Andalucian Autonomous Community “leads the sector at a national level.”

By way of example, the Deputy Minister explained that the involvement of Andalucian producers in this type of sustainable technique is reflected, among other indices, in the fact that “more than 25 per cent of the Useful Agricultural Area (UAA) is already used for organic agriculture and livestock farming.”

The mayor of Almeria, Maria del Mar Vazquez, confirmed: “The Costacabana neighbourhood is going to experience spectacular growth in the provision of sports facilities in the coming years.”

Next year, the city council wants to build a new sports court in the Costacabana neighbourhood. The future sports court, which the mayor wants to include in the 2024 budget, will follow the standard of the freeuse facilities of the municipal network.

Although the project still has to be carried out, the forecast is that it will be equipped with a football field, a 40 x 20metre indoor handball room and two transversal basketball courts on a resin pavement applied on a base of asphalt agglomerate.

It will be fenced around its entire perimeter and with background nets behind the goals. In addition, it will also have lighting towers with LED projectors.
