Luxury destination Ideal for golf
A STUDY undertaken by insurance company Hiscox, suggests that the luxury housing market in Spain is dominated by Malaga Province, although it also found that the Balearics, especially Mallorca ran a close second.
So close is it, that whilst Malaga represents 34 per cent of the most expensive properties in Spain, the Balearics are just 1 per cent behind at 33.
One would have expected major cities such as Barcelona and Madrid to be leading the way, but the main difference is the amount of land still available on the Costs del Sol as compared to the cities which have large numbers of apartments.
According to an in depth study undertaken by influential web site Idealista in 2022, approximately onethird of all annual property purchases in the region are made by foreigners. Although not all these purchases fall within the luxury segment, the demand generated by foreign buyers has been acknowledged by some as a factor contributing to the overall increase in house prices.
Unlike the Costa del Sol, Mallorca doesn’t have huge amounts of land available for development and there are some who argue that like Guernsey and Jersey, there should be a hard core of property available for sale to local residents only, so if you are thinking of buying in Mallorca now is probably the right time.
Many celebrities have second homes on Mallorca and there is always the chance of bumping into a member of the Royal Family.
TO some extent, sport and Mallorca seems to automatically point to boating of all types as well as other water sports.
In actual fact, there more golf courses on Mallorca than there are in Marbella which has 21 courses of either 18 or 19 holes, but Mallorca has 24 and they are all very good.
Thanks to the weather, the courses themselves are all kept in exceptional condition and golfers can play all year round (with the odd rainy day) and this makes the courses the ideal place to buy a property.
Every time a new course is built you can be sure that there will be a development of housing, often a mix of apartments, townhouses and villas and those who purchase a property around a new golf course can normally expect to negotiate very good club membership deals.
Even if you aren’t that interested in golf, the views over the courses are spectacular and invariably each course will have its own special bar and restaurant, often open to the public.
Properties don’t come cheap but that’s generally a bonus because you will know that your neighbours have invested the same amount in buying the property and have the same desire to ensure that the area is kept safe and tidy.
It is estimated that at any one time there are up to 1,000 properties around golf courses in Mallorca available for sale so what a great opportunity to enjoy the sport.
