Honouring by art
ALMERIA City Council has commissioned the acquisition and installation of a work of art, a sculpture that aims to honour the families of fishermen. The sculpture will be installed next to the entrance to the city and the Pescaderia La Chanca neighbourhood.
The sculptural piece, a unique, exclusive and original creation by the sculptor Francisco Javier Galán Domingo, is made up of three figures, father, mother and son and made of bronze.
Inspired by iconography from the 40s and 50s, it will come to symbolically recognise the work, sacrifice and effort of the seafaring families, forming part of the landscape and cultural heritage of the city.
The commission, approved by the Local Government Board involves an investment of €44,000 and responds to the municipal commitment to meet the request of different groups and associations to honour the families of fishermen.
With a weight of 370 kilos and an approximate height of 220 centimetres and a width of 150 centimetres, the sculpture will be placed on a base of natural marble stone and will include a commemorative plaque.
