THE Moors and Christians festivities in Santomera kicked off with a spectacular start as five festive groups came together to signal the beginning of the celebrations.

The official inauguration took place at the Auditorium Ginés Abellán, where Francisco Martínez Campillo, the Captain of 2023, made his grand entrance. Joined by the Moros Almorávides, Caballeros y Damas del Ampurdán, Contrabandists of the Mediterranean, Yonud, Hijos del Desierto (sons of the desert), and the recently incorporated Pirates Berberiscos!

The evening also featured a captivating historical recreation performed by the Mar Teatro Cultural Association. Following the proclamation, the festive camp was inaugurated at Calle de la Gloria car park, accompanied by lively music from The Power Band. Looking ahead, the fiestas will be represented at Fitur in Madrid next February, aiming to showcase the charm of Santomera and attract visitors to support its continuous growth. The festive groups have prepared for the highly anticipated grand parade scheduled for Saturday, July 1.

With data from 2021, the report reveals that Murcia has over 20 control laboratories, on par with major cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Malaga, and Mallorca. In terms of the number of control bulletins conducted at each sampling point, Murcia surpasses the national average with an impressive 120 bulletins.
