Beaches closed

ÁGUILAS was forced to close the beaches of La Colonia and Poniente due to a sewage spillage caused by a fault in the town’s sewage treatment plant.

The overflow, resulting from an electrical malfunction in the plant, found its way into the sea. In response, local authorities, including the Local Police of Águilas and lifeguards, swiftly evacuated swimmers from the affected beaches.

The spillage, although somewhat absorbed by the riverbed’s sand, led to the decision to close the beaches as a precaution ary measure. Red flags were placed to indicate the closure. Samples have been collected, and health technicians from the Autonomous Community are scheduled to assess the situation. The mayor, Mari Carmen Moreno, intends to address the issue in a press conference, urging the regional government to invest in a new wastewater treatment infrastructure.

As of Monday, June 26, the beaches of La Colonia and Poniente remain closed until further notice, pending the results of the analysis by Public Health officials.

Murcia consistently analyses a broad range of parameters, including E. coli, chlorine, boron, and nitrates, often surpassing the national average for analysis proportions.

Overall, the diligent monitoring and rigorous controls implemented in the Region of Murcia guarantee that the water consumed by its residents is of the highest quality and safe for use.

SAN JAVIER Town Council has taken a significant step in raising awareness about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) by joining the #LuzporlaELA (light for ALS) campaign. On the occasion of World ALS Day, the council illuminated the plane of the Dos Mares roundabout. This symbolic gesture aims to express support and solidarity with individuals affected by this debilitating disease.

Meanwhile, San Pedro del Pinatar has also joined the cause by participating in the #LightforELA initiative on the World Day of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. To make ALS more visible and emphasise the necessity for further research, the auxiliary pavilion of the municipal sports centre has been bathed in green light. Through these united efforts, both San Javier and San Pedro del Pinatar are demonstrating their unwavering support for ALS patients and their families.
