Roundabout birth Turtle nest found

A LOGGERHEAD sea turtle was found after laying 80 eggs on Denia’s Marineta Cassiana beach last week.

A passer­by discovered the nest while walking along the beach and immediately called the Local Police, who contacted the regional Stranded Animal Network.

The experts rushed to the scene and collected the eggs, taking 14 of them to the Oceanografic Foundation in Valencia where they were placed in incubators to ensure they have the ideal temperature and conditions to guaran­ tee they hatch without any problems, while the rest were moved to a protected beach in the Albufera nature park. Meanwhile, veterinary experts performed a blood test and an ultrasound on the mother to check her state of health, while technicians from the Stranded Animal Network fitted her with a satellite emitter to follow her movements over the next few days.

This is the first instance of turtle egg laying recorded in the Valencia Region so far this year and the 10th since records began.

A PREGNANT woman gave birth on a roundabout in Benidorm last week after waiting for an ambulance for more than 20 minutes.

The emergency services received a call at just after 8.30am reporting that a 30year­old woman had gone into labour on the grass of a roundabout located at the intersection between París and Pekín streets in the Rincón de Loix.

THE first ever inclusive football team consisting entirely of players with mental disabilities in the Marina Alta has made history by winning their respective category in their first year in the tournament.

Sibari Football Club, which is made up of players from various towns throughout the district and who are members of the Amadem and Aprosdeco associations, was formed in 2019, but only entered the regional Inclusive Football League this season.

They were part of the Second Division that she was 36 weeks pregnant and that the contractions had started suddenly.

The officers immediately called for an ambulance, but when it failed to show up one of them ran to the nearby Rincón de Loix health centre to get a doctor and a nurse.

But before they could return the mother gave birth, with the second officer helping to deliver it and covering the mother up with the top part of his uniform.

The ambulance finally arrived 20 minutes later.

Scientists and researchers from 14 institutions including hospitals, universities and investigation centres from several EU countries met to discuss iHelp, a communitywide project performing a study into the prevention and early detection of pancreatic cancer.

Denia Hospital’s role in iHelp is to conduct field work on how the lifestyle of each patient influences the development or evolution of the pathology.

The study, which has been running for two years, focuses on two groups of monitored patients, one with a diagnosis of pancreatic neoplasia and another without.

The team includes oncologists, specialists in general surgery, preventive medicine and family and community medicine.

SUMMER landed with a bang in Alicante Province at the weekend with the first heatwave of the season caused by the entrance of a mass of hot air from the north of Africa.

Meaning that it is better to be careful now so that problems do not occur later on. The proverb was first recorded in 1837, by Irish novelist Samuel Lover in his novel ‘Rory O’More’.
