Benidorm building works
BENIDORM Council has built a new children’s play area on Calle Periodista Emilio Romero at its crossing with Calle Lepanto.
It is the 25th installation of its kind to be opened in the town, creating a network of play areas covering all the residential areas and tourism hotspots.
Mayor Toni Pérez visited the new play area as part of the town hall’s ‘A pie de calle’ weekly visits to different neighbourhoods to meet residents and take note of their suggestions and complaints.
He was accompanied by Citizen Participation and Public Space councillors Ana Pellicer and José Ramón González, respectively.
Sr Pérez highlighted the importance of the new installations “in an area that was lacking this type of infrastructure and which neighbours had been requesting for some time.” chirping while the mothers catch insects to feed them, at the same time playing a vital role to help keep down the plagues of mosquitos, flies and other insects that also always arrive at this time of year.
In another development, the mayor and councillor González also visited the work being carried out on the new walkway on Poniente beach that will reach the Paseo de Colón and is expected to be finished by the end of this month.
The project replaces the original walkway that had become deteriorated after 15 years and will improve accessibility to the beach.
The owners of the supermarket collaborate with the SEO/Birdlife Spanish Ornithological Society to record and protect the winged visitors and have installed a series of trays underneath the nests to prevent the birds’ droppings from falling onto the street below.
SEO/Birdlife reminds the public that bird nests are protected by law and destroying them is a serious offence under Spanish legislation and the European Birds Directive.
