Controversial restoration

RESTORATION work on Denia castle is now complete.

Improvements carried out over the last several months focused on the external wall on the Baix la Mar side, with workers removing the remaining scaffolding on Friday June 23.

The wall has been reinforced, with cracks and joints filled in and invasive vegetation cleared. However, there is one section that is attracting criticism on social media.

It is the stretch nearest the Llavador tower opposite Sanchis Guarner street where concrete has been used to raise the upper part of the wall to bring it level with the rest of the section.

Critics are complaining that the work has ruined the original structure and that the contrast between the new and old sections is too noticeable, but experts insist that that was the whole point. tance of the project to encourage “the creation of communication and support networks among immigrant women, as well as their empowerment so that they can lead their lives free from gender violence.”

It is said to be the common approach taken in restoration processes in recent years, with the aim being to clearly identify what is old and what is new by using modern materials that are more durable and that help support the structures.

In the eight workshops, “the women have received training to improve their communication skills, while they have become aware of the importance of self care and they have created social networks among themselves to reduce the digital divide.

“This will also help them enter the labour market and improve their social relations,” added the councillor.
