Extreme caution
THE Emergency Health Service of the Valencian Community (SESCV), has suggested that extreme caution should be used by beachgoers during the summer to avoid possible drowning in bathing areas on the Costa Blanca.
The director of the SESCV, Begona Arcos, has highlighted the importance of “avoiding solo bathing at any age; since, if a health problem suddenly appears, the time it takes to alert the emergency services can be vital. In addition, it is advisable that the exercise during swimming be adapted to one’s own physical condition and age. In this way, excessive effort is avoided, something to be taken into account in older adults,” she added. Begona Arcos also recalled that you should not bathe immediately after meals. “One of the factors that can influence the loss of consciousness or dizziness to occur more easily is digestion as a consequence of the process itself, which can lead to drowning,” she stated.
The councillor for Commerce, Tito Costa, said the sales campaign entitled Let’s Play at Home is seeking to encourage purchases in local businesses and in the neighbourhood shops of Elche.
Costa pointed out that “when we buy and consume in Elche, we are investing in our neighbours,. We are generating wealth and creating employment.”
This campaign is hoped to hit all the residents of Elche and will soon be advertised on buses and canopies throughout the municipality, as well as in the media and through social networks.
The councillor added: “We are also focused on planning a campaign to take part towards the end of the year to help all the associations and establishments in Elche.”
