THE councillor for Health, Inma Mora, has assured local residents that Elche City Council will demand that the municipality maintains the two SAMU ambulance service bases during the summer months and prevent one of them from being moved to the neighbouring town of Santa Pola from July 1 until September 30.
Mora pointed out that the two SAMU bases are located in the health centres of El Pla and Altabix, covering not only the municipality of Elche, but also other surrounding areas such as Crevillente, Aspe, Hondon de las Nieves and Los Frailes, and reaching a population of almost 400,000 people.

This year, the undergraduate degrees in English Studies, Nursing and Optics & Optometrists have been listed fifth, whereas Advertising and Public Relations were ranked fourth, Tourism appears third and Social Work goes in first. “We understand that the population increase in Santa Pola in the summer months requires the service, but we do not understand why an ambulance should be taken from Elche when this is detrimental to the municipality,” said Mora, who stressed that “people’s health cannot depend on any political decision.”
