VELEZMALAGA is making waves with its newly upgraded accessible beaches and expanded assisted bathing services for disabled beach users. The town has transformed its coastline to cater to all beach lovers, with improved walkways, changing rooms, showers, wheelchairaccessible facilities, and relaxing rest areas.

Jesús Pérez Atencia, the deputy mayor, shared the exciting news on Monday, July 3, as he met with disabled beach users. Atencia said, “We’re proud to announce the upcoming season’s services, focusing on adapted bathing and accessible beaches. Our goal is to ensure that our beaches are inclusive for everyone.”

The town’s commitment to accessibility has not gone unnoticed. The State Representative Platform for Physically Disabled People (PREDIF) and ONCE (Spanish National Organisation for the Blind) have both praised Torre del Mar, La Caleta de Velez, and Benajarafe’s accessible beaches.

These improvements have been underway since 2015, with Torre del Mar, Benajarafe, La Caleta, and Valle Niza now offering services for disabled people. In addition to the facilities, equipment including amphibious chairs, crutches, walkers, life jackets, and Braille information panels are all available for disabled beach users.
