Tour de Force
ALMUÑECAR is rallying behind their very own cycling prodigy! Cycling sensation Carlos Rodríguez Cano rolled out with the peloton in the first stage of the Tour de France in the Basque Country on Saturday, July 1.
Part of the INEOS Grenadiers team, Carlos is set to showcase his immense talent and determination in the world’s most famous stage race.
Local authorities in Almuñecar showed their support for the star, bringing out flags and t shirts to cheer him on as the race began.

The mayor of Almuñecar, Juan José Ruiz Joya, was one of the council members wishing Rodríguez Cano good luck. He showed up wearing a tshirt saying “After proudly watching him in last year’s Vuelta a España last year, we will be cheering him on from a distance over the coming days. We are wishing him the best of luck in this race, we are all sure to follow the race closely!”
Rodríguez Cano’s remarkable rise on the elite cycling scene has caught the attention of the community, making his participation in the legendary race a dream come true.

ONE Nerja resident, Peter Cody, will shave his long locks off on Friday, July 21 in aid of Axarquia Animal Rescue. He was persuaded into the fundraiser by his partner Aisling who has helped to set up collection tins around Nerja.

INVESTIGATORS from the National Police uncovered a criminal ring operating a pyramid scheme out of Rincon de La Victoria. Prosecutors claim that the gang defrauded 50,000 people out of more than €40 million in an online scam.
Betty Henderson ALMUÑECAR Council announced on Monday, July 3 that the renewal period for the popular Urban Transport Card is now open to the public.
The card, which is also known as the ‘M65 Card’, allows residents aged 65 and above, and all pensioners in Almuñecar and La Herradura, to travel for free on the town’s public transport network.
Last year, the council joined forces with Grupo Fajardo, the company who runs the local public trans port system, to make this initiative a reality. Together, the collaboration aims to provide access to free
