IN a major educational advance for Nerja, the Spanish Youth Institute handpicked and featured Nerja’s prestigious International Youth Day event in their catalogue for the 2023 Redsij Local Youth Experiences Programme.

Nerja’s inclusion in the exciting initiative was announced by Daniel Rivas, the local councillor for Youth on Thursday, June 29.

Nerja’s International Youth Day celebration has been delighting audiences since 2012. The celebration takes place annually on August 12 at the town’s Plaza de los Cangrejos. Now, with its inclusion in the exclusive catalogue, this event will serve as an example for towns and cities across the country Rivas explained.

This extraordinary initiative puts a spotlight on the talents of local artists, aged between 14 and 35, through a vibrant array of performances. From mesmerising dance routines, theatre acts and poetry recitals, to spellbinding magic shows, unique exhibitions, and hilarious monologues, guests are treated to a fantastic display of creativity.

Nerja’s initiative now features on the Youth Institute of Spain’s website in the ‘Youth Creation and Art’ section.

ALMUÑECAR will be in the sporting spotlight this weekend as it hosts the Andalucia Under 23 Padel Championship from Friday, July 7 until Sunday, July 9.

The tournament, also known as the José Manuel Hidalgo López Memorial Championship, will feature 70 young players competing in various categories. Thirty­five to 40 pairs will also take to the court to test their skills against other athletes from across Andalucia.
