THE coastal town of Torrox is celebrating as its beautiful beaches now proudly display two Blue Flags, setting new standards for beach and ocean excellence and sustainability.

Torrox’s mayor, Óscar Medina, Gemma del Corral, the regional government representative for Tourism, Culture, and Sports, and Mari Ángeles España, a local councillor, raised the prestigious Blue Flags on Ferrara and El Morche beaches on Monday, July 3.

The flags were awarded at the start of May, but have just arrived. The Blue Flag certification, recognised worldwide for its top­quality standards and accessibility, symbolises the commitment of Ferrara and El Morche beaches to meeting strict criteria. Del Corral applauded the mayor’s determination in maintaining the Blue Flag at Ferrara beach and regaining the flag for El Morche in 2021, after previous administrations lost the award.

Medina thanked everyone who made the award possible and shared his vision for a summer where Torrox flies three Blue Flags. His goal is for El Peñoncillo beach to receive a Blue Flag.
