Baking a difference
IN a spectacular display of community support, the second annual Pie Fest in Pinar del Rey was a major triumph. Organisers announced last week the event raised a staggering €1,820 for the SOS Los Barrios dog refuge and Protectora Pulgosas. The unique event, which took place on Sunday, June 18, was an incredible social afternoon and a chance for guests to indulge in the classic British comfort food, pies.
Even the rain couldn’t dampen guests’ cheery spirit in the Pinar del Rey forest of San Roque as they were serenaded by the Love to Sing Costa del Sol choir and participated in a fabulous raffle. The event was made possible by the selfless volunteers who went above and beyond to serve the guests. Dot, Maggie, Celine, Ted, Wendy, Roza, Sharon, Emerson, Diones, and Terry all worked tirelessly to prepare the garden and waited on tables, serving a delicious threecourse meal, complete with pie mains. Fiona’s delicious puddings also went down a treat. from Front page
AN extraordinary British man was recognised with a special reception at Benalmadena Town Hall on Wednesday, June 28, in honour of his 100th birthday.
Mayor Juan Antonio Lara and the councillor for Foreign Residents, Presi Aguilera welcomed Charles Betty to the town hall, congratulating him on his incredible milestone birthday.

Lara also wanted to thank Charles for all of his contributions to Benalmadena, particularly for foreign residents over the past 38 years that he has lived in the town.
The fabulous event was also caught on camera by Sophia and Emma from Bargain Loving Brits in the Sun, so anyone who missed it will get a chance to relive the memory on TV.
