Centenarian sensation

Charles Betty, born on June 1, 1923, in the midst of a century marked by historical events, has lived a remarkable life. Despite his age, he remains incredibly active, pursuing his education and actively engaging in the local community.

At the age of 95, he achieved an incredible feat, collecting a Doctorate in Philosophy and becoming the oldest graduate in the entire United Kingdom.

Charles’ impact extends beyond aca­ demics. He played a major role in creating translation services at the Local Police station and health centres. He also founded the Age Care Association to support elderly British residents.

He is also a veteran of the Second World War II and received the French Legion of Honour medal for his contributions.

Charles’ century­long journey of vitality and passion for the place he lives is an inspiration to all.

David Steele has released an updated list of auction lots for his upcoming charity golf marathon. The articles involve a signed masters flag, Solheim tickets, green fees, a sunset boat cruise, a photo shoot and cases of wine.

Special music

THE Son y Sal Choir celebrated the anniversary of the Marqués del Duero, the founder of their town, San Pedro Alcantara last week. The choir and its musicians performed several pieces at a special memorial ceremony in the town centre.

Charity party

TICKETS are still available for a charity event at Coín Carvery on Saturday, July 8. The fun black and white party will feature music, games and prizes while raising funds for People At Risk In Spain and Last Chance AID.

€10m funding

MARBELLA’S Los Monteros hotel will undergo a €10 million renovation after receiving approval by the city council on Tuesday, July 4. Other hotels like El Fuerte and Hard Rock have also already received funding for renovations, a key council policy.

Charity cheers

BAR AM in Fuengirola raised a fabulous €587 at a fundraising event held at the venue last week. The funds will be split between local charities Age Concern and the Cudeca Foundation, as well as aid for Ukrainian nationals.

Wheel watch

FOUR police officers have been assigned to patrol Mijas beaches this summer. The team will ensure beach rules are followed, fight crime, remove illegal salespeople and people offering massages for cash. They will work daily from Torreon to La Luna chiringuito.
