Rapid response
RED DOG Cinema in Puerto Banus was rapidly evacuated on Thursday, June 29 after a fire broke out next door, causing thick black smoke to enter the cinema’s halls.
Thanks to the rapid response from cinema staff and emergency services, no injuries were reported, but dense, black smoke caused the cinema’s air conditioning units to malfunction.
The flames broke out around 5pm on a neighbouring building’s terrace, but the cause of the fire remains unknown. It is be lieved that the fire could have been the result of plastic materials catching fire. the fair’s ‘King and Queen’, Gonzalo García and Enara Merino, with the crowning of the children’s kings and queens taking place over the weekend.
Luis Miguel Martín, the President of the business group which runs Red Dog Cinema shared his thanks to firefighters, National Police and Local Police forces for their support. He added that guests who were evacuated were offered a free ticket for future showings.
Once the fire was out, it was business as usual for the cinema on Friday, June 29 as it opened for a full programme of film showings after a deep clean.
González described the start of the fair as “a resounding success,” highlighting the recordbreaking numbers of guests at the opening ceremony.
Activities lasted throughout the weekend including free concerts by a range of performers and a meal for local elderly people, as well as a daytime fair which took place at Cortijo Don Elías.

AN oasis for nature lovers and birdwatchers yearround, the scenic Mirador de Las Águilas viewpoint in Mijas is receiving a summertime makeover.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, July 4 by Nicolás Cruz, the local councillor for the Environment, during a visit to the site.
