The deputy mayor, Javier García, shared his gratitude for the Rotary Club's initiative. The giant fish forms part of their efforts to stop plastic pollution in the oceans by the year 2050. The fish has their campaign slogan across its body on a flag saying ‘End Plastic Soup’.
Willem Falter, the Rotary Club’s President, said the sculpture is so striking that he thinks even people who usually ignore recycling bins will want to use it.
