Honouring tradition

every year. With deep roots in Fuengirola’s lengthy history, the Virgen del Carmen Procession has stood the test of time and remains a popular event.

Every year on July 16, the town’s streets come alive as the Patron Saint of sailors passes through in procession, ac companied by a crowd of passionate believers and curious visitors. The end of this incredible procession takes place as the Virgin majestically enters the sea, symbolically blessing the waters and all who sail on them.

The declaration of the event as a Regional Festival of Tourist Interest is guaranteed to bring more publicity to Fuengirola, bringing more tourists interested in the unique religious event. The award also recognises Fuengirola’s commitment to preserving its historical and religious heritage.

AROUND 90 employees working at the luxurious Guadalpin Banus Hotel in Marbella face the daunting prospect of being out of work this summer after the establishment was evicted by police officers.

At least 11 units of the National Police were deployed to the fivestar hotel just after 10.30am on Monday July 3 to execute an eviction notice from Malaga’s Commercial Court No 1. As a result, the hotel’s kitchen facilities were sealed.

When the staff realised what was about to happen, they confined themselves to the kitchens and refused to come out. José Manuel Rando, the Marbella commissioner, entered into dialogue with them in an effort to explain the situation.

A peaceful solution was finally reached some two and a half hours later when they eventually agreed to exit the building.

As a result of Monday’s action, SPV, the company that owns the building, took possession of two premises that were the subject of an ongoing lawsuit, as reported by a news source.

The hotel has been at the centre of a lawsuit brought by one of the building’s many owners, from the company SPV.

The hotel’s kitchens, terraces and other common areas were due to be open, but a decree from the Commercial Court No1 of Malaga last week warned that such action could result in the closure of the establishment and even the loss of its hotel status.
