New mayor for Mojacar

CROWDS gathered outside the council offices in Mojacar Pueblo on Friday evening. Gusts of wind blew around the village: there was a change in the air, waiters ran out of the bars and restaurants to hold down the parasols.

While two men rushed to support the large video screen setup outside the Mojacar Council offices that was soon to broadcast the investiture of Francisco Garcia.

Inside the council chambers were families of both parties: PP and POSE waiting patiently for the ceremony to begin, while crowds of locals and tourists alike had gathered ence. Formalities proceeded with each of the new councillors taking oaths, the PP having the majority of eight councillors compared to five from the PSOE. it. outside, filling the bars and restaurants to watch on the ‘big screen’.

THE four Blue Flags that have been awarded by the European Foundation for Environmental Education are already flying on the beaches of Mojacar, which, since 1987, distinguishes beaches and ports that meet a series of rigid environmental conditions and facilities.

This year the beaches of El Cantal, Lance Nuevo, Marina de la Torre and Venta del Bancal ­ Ventanicas have been responsible for renewing this distinction.

Mojacar has 17 kilometres of magnificent coastline.
