AN opportunity, an experience, is it you or someone you know? Want to make a difference? Become a volunteer and join the PAWSPATAS animal shelter team in Spain!

The PAWSPATAS animal shelter situated near a small town called Turre in Costa Almeria, Andalucia now enters its 35th year. Their mission statement is to provide temporary shelter to abandoned kittens, cats, puppies and dogs. Their purpose is to find permanent homes and support and educate a healthy pet community and responsible pet ownership.

The animal charity receives no government funding and are totally supported by public donations, organisation membership, local fundraising events, auctions plus their four outlets in Mojacar, Turre and Las Buganvillas. PAWSPATAS also relies heavily on teams of passionate volunteers. There are local people who come to the shelter during the week but there is, thankfully, also a constant stream of overseas volunteers from all over Europe who come and stay for a period of time; often returning on an annual basis. Some volunteers are undertaking an internship; others are students or mature folk wishing to experience a new adventure.

WHAT DO YOU NEED? A love of dogs and basic skills in animal care. Not afraid to get dirty and have lots of ‘furry cuddles’. Can ex press yourself in English and are fit for physical work. WHAT DO YOU DO? General daily care with feeding, cleaning kennels and playing areas, socialising, training and dog walking. FOR HOW LONG? Minimum stay is two weeks but you can stay longer. Fly to Almeria or Alicante and transfer to Vera bus station. Drive your own car and park at the shelter. Whatever your circumstances, PAWSPATAS will do their utmost to accommodate you which includes other volunteers transporting you to local towns for shopping or a day on the beach!

In the direction of Almeria, this involves the construction of a new twolane road. In the direction of Malaga, a new tunnel will be built with three lanes in each direction and 220 metres long.

The junction of the AL14 with the N340a will be remodelled to accommodate the doubling of the carriageway to provide access to the port. The N340a, between the junction mentioned in the previous point and Almería,
