In a tweet, Kawwas shared his excitement, thanking President Pedro Sánchez for his support and commitment to building a more resilient global semiconductor chain.

Although specific details regarding the plant’s location and job opportunities remain undisclosed, the project is expected to invest around €900 million in Spain, and to create thousands of jobs.

Historic tourism

ACCORDING to Frontur and Egatur data published by the National Statistics Institute, in the first five months of 2023, Spain received 29 million tourists which is 28 per cent more than in the same period of 2022.

Spain was visited by 8.2 million international tourists in May, 18 per cent more than in the same period of 2022, and 4 per cent more than in May 2019.

Once again and for the second consecutive month, these figures are all­time records in terms of both the number of visitors and the volume of spending: €9.723m, 21 per cent more than a year ago and 19 per cent more than the best pre­pandemic figure.

In the first third of the year, total spending was €35.4 million, 32 per cent more than in the same period last year, and 16 per cent higher than in 2019.

Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Hector Gomez, confirmed: “The summer season is expected to be historic for tourism in our country.”
