CAR-T Revolution
LA ARRIXACA, a hospital in the Region of Murcia, has begun treating children with leukaemia using CART cells, an advanced therapy that shows excellent results.
Thais, a nineyearold girl from Ecuador, received the first CART treatment after previous treatments including a bone marrow transplant failed to eliminate her cancer. The Foundation for the Fight against Leukaemia brought her to Murcia through an agreement with the Murcian Health Service.
La Arrixaca, known for its expertise in cell therapy, is one of the six accredited hospitals in Spain to provide CART treatment to both adults and children.

CART therapy involves using the patient’s own lymphocytes to attack cancer cells in a personalised and targeted manner. The therapy has shown success in treating acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, diffuse large Bcell lymphoma and multiple myeloma.
Thais is currently recovering in the paediatric ICU, grateful for the opportunity she has been given.
