Another puppy farm

A 42-YEAR-OLD man was arrested on the Costa del Sol after the discovery of two illegal kennels in the towns of Mijas and Fuengirola.

According to a statement on Friday, July 7, by the National Police, the pet store owner was allegedly responsible for a continuous crime of animal abuse and another of animal abuse for sexual purposes through intensive procreation in kennels. A dog owner reported the possible illtreatment that her dog had received after taking it to a pet shop in Fuengirola for treatment. Shortly after, the complainant began to receive threats from the person in charge of the establishment, asking her to pay a sum of money or the dog would be killed. According to investigators, the owner of the store had two kennels in Mijas, where the complainant’s dog was being kept and when found, the animal was dead. Around 140 dogs were found in unsanitary conditions together with several drugs.

LA CALA LIONS are seeking two volunteers to join their Thursday dream team in their charity shop in La Cala de Mijas. The ideal candidate would be available to volunteer from 9.50am until 2.10pm and can sign up instore.

Thirst aid

MIJAS animal shelter Animal Care España (ACE| Shin) is still in need of water due to their well running dry. With 500 dogs and 200 cats relying on 10,000 litres daily, they must shell out €130 per day without donations.

Pride pays

TORREMOLINOS’ tourism industry is expecting LGBTQ+ tourism to bring an enormous €350 million into the town’s economy between May and October of this year. Torremolinos is expected to have hosted 360,000 tourists thanks to events like Pride and celebrity appearances.

AGE Concern Marbella and San Pedro enjoyed a fantastic turnout at Alex Corner for their Benavista Coffee morning last week. The event was a success with guests enjoying a morning of social fun. Organisers thanked Nick for helping look after the guests.

Shower power

BENALMADENA is taking the drought crisis head on, acting now to prevent the situation from getting any worse. Last week, the mayor announced a measure to change the buttons on beach showers, to only work when pressed, saving 10 per cent.

Boat bust

POLICE in Marbella foiled a robbery attempt last weekend as four people tried to steal a boat worth €50,000. The bungling thieves alerted police to their presence by making so much noise. The robbers were then arrested.
