Riding the wave
MIJAS is basking in glory after emerging with the most beach awards for a coastal town in Andalucia.
Authorities held a special ceremony of recognition on Monday, July 10, raising four Blue Flags, and nine ‘Q for Quality’ distinction flags. The town also celebrated receiving an ISO 14001 certification, a Blue Trail, a Blue Center, a special mention for their Lifeguard and Rescue Service, and four flags for universal accessibility.
“This flagraising ceremony celebrates the tremendous efforts from all in our town in beach management. Our pristine coastline isn’t just a treasure for Mijas locals; it also attracts holidaymakers looking for an excellent seaside experience,” explained the mayor, Josele González.
The deputy mayor ,José Car los Martín highlighted the hard work that helped the town win the awards, “With 62 vigilant lifeguards, 120 dedicated members staff keeping our shores clean, and our Local Police ensuring security, Mijas offers a complete beach package.”
Martín also highlighted other top tourist attractions in the town, including culinary experiences.
