MARITIME rescue has rescued 18 immigrants of North African origin, including a woman and a child, from a boat located 22,224 kilometres from the coast of Almeria.
A spokesman for Maritime Rescue confirmed the coordination centre of Almeria received a notice warning on July 15 of the presence of a small boat that set sail from Algeria.
After several negative telephone efforts, the 112 of Andalucia managed to triangulate the position of the boat thanks to a call and provided it to Salvamento Maritimo.
The coordinating centre then contacted the ship Pico Basile, which was in the area and confirmed the position of a white boat with people on board.
They were asked to continue sailing alongside until the ship Salvamar Algenib arrived and around 9.00am the rescue of the immigrants began.
