THE iconic Peugeot 205, a symbol of French automotive design, celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2023. Launched in 1983, the 205 quickly became a beloved model, marking a turning point in Peugeot’s history.

The 205 was a gamechanger for Peugeot, helping the company regain its footing during a difficult financial period. Its compact design, fuel efficiency, and affordability made it a hit among consumers, particularly in Europe.

The model’s popularity was further boosted by the introduction of the 205 GTI, a highperformance variant, which became a legend in its own right. The GTI, with its nimble handling and powerful engine, quickly earned a reputation as one of the best hot hatches of its era.

Maserati and Beckham

WHEN two of the world’s most iconic names come together the results are bound to be spectacular.

The collaboration between the Italian car maker Maserati and one of the world’s greatest footballers, David Beckham, produced two stunning examples of car design called the Fuoriserie DB Essentials, unveiled last month.

Maserati’s Head of Design, Klaus Busse said: “Fuoriserie means ‘custom­built’ in Italian, and our Trident’s customisation programme is conceived to create singular experiences for our clients. ”

French automotive excellence. Its legacy continues to influence Peugeot’s current lineup, with the company’s commitment to design and performance echoing the spirit of the 205. The Peugeot 205’s 40th anniversary is a reminder of the enduring power of good design and the importance of innovation in the automotive industry.

Beckham is a huge fan of the Italian manufacturer and the first of his designs was inspired by the company’s classic 1967 classy Maserati Ghibli coupé. And for David’s second design he honoured the 1986 Maserati Quattroporte Royale.

Maserati too paid their own tribute to the much­loved Englishman, with an inscribed metal plaque fixed inside each car.
