Bridge success

MANY people will be aware that the Foreign Residents Association of Estepona (AREME), have taken almost three years to convince Estepona Town Council to install ramps on the foot bridge between Benamara and Benavista to enable everyone to be able to cross the A7 safely.

In September of last year this agreement was achieved and they would take this opportunity to thank Diego Baranca for his assistance from him during this time. As part of the agreement with the council they were requested to raise €16,000 to pay for the Engineer’s reports. This was achieved by the undernoted Communities in the area contributing funds and this target was met by the end of February this year. Their grateful thanks go to the communities of

In March the council passed the plans and Engineer’s report to the department in Malaga who has the responsibility for all bridges over the A7 to obtain its permission to proceed.

This permission is currently awaited and it is anticipated that work to the bridge will be carried out in early autumn.

Members of AREME host coffee mornings at Alex Corner in Benavista and every third Monday in the month and the first Monday of each months at Rick’s Bar in Estepona Marina.

LOS BOLICHES Fair in celebration of the Virgen del Carmen featured an unconventional event on Saturday, July 15. The popular ‘Por Tapas’ cycling tour returned this year, taking cyclists on a scenic and tasty tour of Fuengirola and Los Boliches.

The tour began at the Peña Recreativa Bolichera at the town’s fairground, passing by the Plaza del Carmen and the town centre. Cyclists stopped off at different restaurants and cafes which offered tapas and refreshments to them.

The tour stopped at La Esquinita, followed by the Plaza Pedro Cuevas, the Paseo Marítimo, and the Martin Playa and Videra beach bars. The group then head­
