Young at heart
BENALMADENA paid tribute to one of its longestliving residents, Carmen del Pino Barroso, with a special 100th birthday celebration on Friday, July 14.
The mayor, Juan Antonio Lara, and the councillor for Older Residents, María Luisa Robles, surprised Carmen with a birthday party complete with a cake.
Carmen has been living in Benalmadena for the past 20 years and is loved by all who know her in the community.
“It’s an honour to get to celebrate Carmen’s 100th birthday with her, her family, and friends,” said the mayor. “Carmen’s love for Benalmadena makes us proud, and we wish her many more happy years in this town that we love.”
Carmen was born in Ronda on July 8, 1923, and moved to Benalmadena at the age of 80. She currently lives with her daughter, soninlaw, and granddaughter, and is known for her daily walks around the town.“Carmen loves Arroyo de la Miel, the bars, the

THE popular Mijas Walking Tours for Charity, led by Alan Boardman, is set to begin again in September after taking a break during the summer heat. Alan has just released several new tour dates.
The tour is a great way to explore the historical, social, and cultural development of Mijas and the wider Costa del Sol in a fun and engaging way. The tour starts at 11am outside the town hall in Mijas Pueblo and lasts approximately three hours, with no steep climbs, making it a gentle stroll.
The tour visits parts of the town not often frequented by outsiders, with intriguing stories that are unknown to both foreign residents and visitors.

Taking a break
THE U3A Costa del Sol group is taking a break for the summer but is looking forward to returning with a bang in September.

The group encourages members to send in photos of their summer travels or fun times to their U3A Costa del Sol Facebook community.
The group has some excellent events planned for when they return, including a social evening at Fibber’s Bar in Torreblanca on Saturday, November 4 from 6.30pm. The menu options will be made available at U3A registration in September, and names of those wishing to attend will also be taken on registration.
Alan Boardman has kindly offered to MC, and several acts have already registered. The evening will include a fun quiz and an opportunity for individuals to share their jokes, monologues, or party pieces.
New members are welcome to join the U3A Costa del Sol in September.The U3A, or the University of the Third Age, is an organisation that aims to promote learning for personal fulfilment and pleasure. Members share their knowledge and experience and develop their own capabilities by learning from each other. This group was established in 1997 and now has 400 members.

VALERIE Williams, the founder of the Simply Thriving Group, recently took to Facebook to wish members a happy summer and to thank them for their support following the group’s ‘Posh Night Out’, which ended the season.
The event featured a raffle in support of Last Chance Animal Rescue charity, and Valerie was delighted to hand over €1,002 to the charity.
